Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

You all were right! The littles are adapting well to the coop and the bigs are largely leaving them alone. There were a couple side swipes that occurred but I am imaginging that is par for the course and will happen from time to time. They stayed the night in their separate quarters and I will keep their “safe space” up so they can escape if necessary in the run, but all good so far!

I really thought they would get picked on more than they have. Fingers crossed.
I have to run tot the store for feed. The big girls eat layena crumbles, but I think after reading posts, I will switch to flock raiser since the littles can’t have the calcium. They won’t eat the OS will they?

thanks everyone! Another first checked off the list.

I looked it up, and it looks like there are a couple in the area. I'll call them if I keep seeing him. I wonder if he even made it through the night (he clearly can't

Here is a place I have reached out to when I had some sick squirrels in grand rapids. The gal that runs it is a wonderful woman. Places like this need our support. Good luck!

They should....put them in a separate feeder.
Good to mix them with crushed chicken eggs shell.
Thanks! I have separate OS for the big girls and they eat as necessary. There is the feeder for the littles food within their space along with chick grit, but I cant stop them from noshing on the bigs’ feeder and dont want them to ingest the calcium from the layena crumbles. Im afraid they will get sick from the calcium.

I also use the crumbled shells back in the OS:) chickens are the perfect sustainable creature!

The flock raiser has more protein than the Layena so I dont want to mess up the big girl diet to accommodate the little girl diet.

In your parents yard or did you buy your own land?
Hope you start a build thread for your tiny house....link it here for us?
Yeah it'll be in my parents yard. We had over 300 trees cut down from the flooding and we are filling with dirt and decided to put a little house in it :)

We have 6 acres of land so there is gonna be plenty of room and I'm excited

There is an injured squirrel coming to the seeds on the ground under my bird feeder (front left leg seems broken and probably the back left leg, and possibly more injuries). What should I do? Leave it to nature, or trap it and bring it somewhere, or call someone? It looks to be in a lot of pain.
most likely put it out of its misery if you can. you can try a live trap but don't know of anyone that would take it

Thanks! I have separate OS for the big girls and they eat as necessary.
Oh well, nothing to worry about then.
You should notice them eating more of the OS.

It will be fine. Allows for a few more treats.
Many feed only an all flock type, with the OS on the side, to all their birds.
