Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I got half of the grow out pen built in the coop. (Pictures when it's done.) I need to think about how I want to do the other half.

I walked into the run with Big Scary Things in my hands, and the chickens went into the coop. I went into the coop, they edged their way out. We did this dance about 10 times. By the last go around, the steps were well timed and nobody squawked.

Hello everyone! I thought I would never sit down in front of this monster today. Have done a few things on my own and I am not happy with it.
To start, while I was out in the morning, I watched through the camera as usual that Rachel got in the middle nest box and sat there for about an hour. I even made the joke I was given here and the church ladies laughed when I said that she must have a book in there. Anyways, when I got home I found another tiny egg. She was in the steps as I found it and I asked her if that was for me and she made sounds. Unknown if it was a yes or a no but I took it anyways. Her last tiny egg, 2 days ago, it has double yoke inside. It was so nice to see that.

So with my little to no woodworking skills, i tried to do some kind of steps for them to use to go to the roost because they are getting bigger and heavier and I do not want them to keep flying up and down. Even though, sometimes I open the door and they fly not to the floor of the coop but right through the door over my head and land in the yard. I did not liked the way it came out but I the idea is there and now I have to either re-do or adjust.

It is not completed because as I sat on a bucket to drill holes and then put the screws, Phoebe was pecking at my derriere. It was raining a little so they were all inside with me and wow, they can be noisy.

And of course, when it is not raining and they are not making holes everywhere, they just stay right on the stairs. Here they were all waiting for Rachel to do her tiny egg, lol

At least today, Phoebe did not made any stunts of flying outside the perimeter. She did very good.
By the way, no other one is laying but they are turning red. Am I missing something?
Is this ok as a predator proof for the door?

Should I crochet something like this and dress my girls? 20210628_074751.jpg
That last one was a joke.

Good evening all! Looks like everyone is busy busy these days.

The littles have been in the big girl coop now since Saturday. They scamper into their area when the bigs get a little rambunctious. They turned 6 weeks yesterday and it is hard to believe that the big girls have largely left them alone. The littles turn into speed racer at times when they think they're getting cornered. But, for most part, everyone is getting along very well! Thanks for encouragement to get them out there sooner rather than later. I was going to put them in the coop in the garage first, but this has been much easier. As long as the littles have a place to escape when they are being bullied, they should be fine!

They still go into their little pack n play at night. I need to make a larger roost for them as they have grown out of the baby roost. I think I will be able to put them on the big girl roost sooner than expected. The big girls are down off their roost by 6:30 to go out for the day. I’m not ready for the bigs and littles to mix in that environment out of fear that they might get into a dust up in the close quarters of the coop. Once the bigs go into the run, I let the littles out of their space and this morning was the first day they went out into the run on their own. It was like your kid getting on the school bus by herself for the first time. So stinking cute!

I had dinner at a friends last night when I got home the big girls were already in the coop ready for the bed. I looked on the ground and only saw 2 littles and got a bit worried…..until I saw GInger and Hazel lounging on the open window and the stick that was being used to prop the window open!! So stinking cute. Those 2 are my flight risks:) I was bent over yesterday and Hazel flew up on my back. It was so funny.

I was the youngest of 3 siblings and have no kids of my own. I get it when parents talk about bubble wrapping the first kid and the second kid essentially plays in traffic:lau

Time for another coffee and get my game face on for a day of Zoom meetings. My firm is letting us see clients in September…

My seabrights are the babies. They are 9 wks now while the others are about 20 to 21. The Seabrights used to be alone in the roost (the loft) until teh big ones began flying up and roost there. They have settled their roosting order. Phoebe stays alone in one corner, the babies in the middle and then is Sophia, my drama queen, Blanch, my EE and scared of every one including the babies, Then is Monica and last is my layer, Rachel who has appropriated the other corner. They hang around together but the babies stay together. They get picked by Rachel, Monica and Phoebe but they pick on Blanch and Sophia. I look at it as kids in the playground, :lau roostingorder.png
In this picture, Sophia was scared of the seabrights and moved next to Phoebe until Phoebe pecked her back to the other side,

Your babies will be fine. They will get used to each other. I learned that right here, :love
