Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Yes it'll be nice to have him help but his kind of help is "doing the whole thing" when this is something I wanted to do myself with some guidance. Just like an independence thing
But it's his yard, eh?
..and who knows more about construction?

This heat is disgusting....I am melting.
Looking for other heat haters to commiserate with,
folks that don't have the luxury of AC in their houses.

We bought a window A/C unit to put in the living room for days like today. DH's computer is upstairs in the oven library. I'm quite happy to have my laptop downstairs in the living room.

I melted out in the garden today. I didn't realize how soggy my clothes had gotten till I tried to stand up and my pant legs were stuck to me. No problem drinking lots of water on days like today.

All the windows in my house are slider or awnings, not conducive to window AC units.

I had a window unit in my bedroom years ago, when I was still working full time.
Had to remove the awning window and install a custom mount,
it was pretty brilliant but rather a bear to manage, took 2 people with some muscle to do.
I gave up on it, it was loud and can't live in just one room.

Plus, what did we do years before AC?

That's why he would be guiding me through it. I'm paying for it to be built that's why I wanted to do it. He has all these great skills but me and my brother don't because instead of showing us he goes ahead and just does it.

It's more of a learning experience for me so when I'm officially on my own and with my own family I'll be able to know how to do those certain things

I commiserate! And no AC, we do the box fans in the windows morning and evening and close up for the heat of the day. And don't turn the stove on for days at a time... that kills the cool. I really miss the attic fan we had in a previous house - more so the the AC we had at another house.

And run cold water over arms when it gets too bad.

Hopefully you can work together so you can learn by doing with his guidance.

Did the cold water today, while filling the ice block(for the chooks) totes.
Condensation off cold drinks on my skin under the ceiling fan is nice too.
Sleeping under a ceiling fan is essential on some nights too.

Have an attic fan, it's wonderful until the humidity in the house gets so high that closing up the house doesn't do much good for long...at least it purges the attic of hot air.
I traded 5° increase of heat for 10% lower humidity the last couple days.
