Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

DH "likes" the deer. I like them too, just not eating my trees, plants, or garden. Yeah, I really need a taller fence around the garden.
If we want a garden we have to have a fence. We put up a 6' fence around the garden and we have not had any deer troubles at all for 6 years. Before that they would keep our strawberries at ground level all the time!
I wish DH liked hunting, as we could have venison. He DOES like venison, if someone gives him some. If the world falls apart, he could hunt, he says. I'd go out in a heartbeat and hunt the :rantcritters.

And yes, they are beautiful. I had one about 10 feet outside my window, munching on the tree and looking at me.
Deer are pretty, but also destructive.

For a girl that can shoot, you hunt it and he can eat lol

In spite of having local hunters, we still have way too large a deer herd. Car interactions are no fun! We have venison in our freezer this year, thanks to one of those hunters. Delicious!

Here too! The farmers are able to get block permits for the crop damage...and still way too many deer left. We do like the venison though!
Don't get me started on "car interactions." We've dealt with far too many of those!

We have to put a fence around our garden too. Too many deer and rabbits around here!

I wish our dog would stay home if she didn't wear her PetSafe collar. The rabbits seem to know exactly how far she can come and sit there and antagonize her. I don't really like the collar but without it she tries to take off.... We'd rather have a living dog than a dead one.

I'm glad to hear that Sam pulled through alright.

On the way home this afternoon I passed a field with 20+ deer. There are a few spots where there are always deer present so I slow down and stay alert. Here at the homestead, there are several deer trails just east of the house. Not many come by the house. I still have a fence around the garden.

This bitter cold is getting old. Supposed to be -3 tonight with a wind chill of -19. I guess that is the price of living with 3 sides of great lake waters around you. :)

Sam made it out of surgery. He shared on FB that an x ray of a broken rib back in October showed a nodule in his right lung. Due to its early discovery, he only lost a 1/3 of his lung. Continued prayers for a speedy recovery. Today is his birthday. I posted on his post that the folks on BYC wish him a happy birthday and a speedy recovery.
I saw the forecast for your area, @aart. Are you in the 4-5" snow band or the 8"+ bullseye?

The deer are getting hungry around here. DH put out a bale of hay for them. Once they found it, it got eaten down to almost nothing in a day. They come right up to within a few feet of my front porch, to browse the fir trees. They also dig up the ivy and myrtle. It'll be a mess out there in the spring.

I didn't forget to add a comment, just clicked to fast:hmm Glad Sam is doing OK, think of him often, thank you Rose for including us.

Dear chomped our myrtle down so bad last winter I was sure it would be gone. But it seemed to like being pruned. looked great this summer. Glad to know they will eat hay, we were going to through some out but haven't yet.
