Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

We seldom see deer in my area, there is too much cedar swamps and rocky ground - not much food for them in the summer. Until this last summer, when I looked out my back window to see a buck in velvet munching up my Hosta :barnie

I ran out the back door letting out something between a screech and a bellow which chased him off, although he came back later and finished off the big-leaf blue Hosta. I got hold of some varmint spray and that was the last damage, but it will take my plants a few years to recover, I'm sure. Good thing Hosta are so resilient.

Myrtle will survive anything. Like roaches.

They nibbled down my hosta in early spring last year. But the plants came back and thrived all summer long. I don't know where the deer went but my front yard was left alone. On the other hand, the hosta up by the house were wiped out by my chickens.

For my bird watchers: Do anyone knows what type of bird these are? The come every day and when it is cleaned out, they come in bunches. They do not walk like chickens, they kind of hop along.I think their breast is whitish but it could also be the snow. I am not sure.

By the way, My poor Blanch (EE) is almost unrecognizable as well as baby mama (sebright) with no tail,

I think it is weird that these knuckleheads get up at 4:30am to just sit around and wait for the others to come out and me to go in. They just sit there for more than an hour. The leghorn (P3) she is no longer there with the terrorists (Wyndottes) and she is the first one to get up and lay. P3 has finally learned to hold her add/adhd and is behaving better, so she is with the other girls. No pecking and no disrrupting the peace on the nest boxes. She had kicked the ceramic egg out of the boxes only twice this time. She even squats for me just like P2. Anyways, they are crazy if they think I am going to go out there at 430 in the morning. These are camera shots.

Or on the MN forum. Their state forum is a lot more active than WI, too. And they get colder than -20F a LOT more often than MI does. Well, nearly all of MI, at least.
