Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Yay! Widget isn't broody anymore! (I think.) She's back on the roost, spent the day in the run/coop, and is saying things besides, "bup-bup-bup-bup."

I really hope when I put the broody crate away, I'm done with it for the winter.
You never know what Widget will come up with, lol
That's why I keep one in the coop, lol

What are "multiplier (potato) onions"?
I have heard them called either name. They are onion sets that you plant in the fall. They start growing in the spring. They split into cloves, and each of those grows, so they "multiply." I'm not sure where the "potato" name came from.

The starter sets I ordered were about a half inch in diameter. So, as you do with garlic, I'm eating the small ones and planting the bigger ones, hoping that they will grow larger onions the next year.

The ones I planted this year were about 2." I hope that means I'll have bigger onions next year. Most of the ones in storage in the basement are about 1-1.5" in diameter. The seem to store quite well.

Think I lost my first bird today. Jlo was hatched July 2nd. Saw a hawk about 15ft above and all the girls where inside,so moved the quackies in. Checking at 7pm, Jlo was missing. Checked every corner of the coop and the run. Went around and can barely see anything. Hub went out with 2 lamps and checked the trees and no sign of her. Hopefully she is up in a tree and will be found tomorrow. Or maybe feathers somewhere. Sad but responsible to know that this can happen. However, I am still hopeful until tomorrow. 20220916_174806.jpg

Hope she reappears tomorrow!
It's time to set up the water heaters in the stock tank and the chicken coop, tomorrow. Watching kilowatts fly away, but unfrozen water is essential. And horses drink better if it's not 33F!
So far we are up to @138 mice in those live traps at the coop! I've lost track, might be a few more. Not getting any every night any more but who knew? It's been amazing, not in a good way.
More to do tomorrow, planting stuff that's been in pots for months.
Mary
