I think you southerners had a pretty wet summer, the exact opposite of what we experienced. That increases all kinds of fungal issues. Hopefully the lilacs are hardy and will regenerate themselves.

Here we've had both too dry and a bit wet, probably might average out, but definitely on the dry side too often.

April had a deluge on the 5th. Then almost no rain for about 2 months. Then above average, I think. Feast or famine on that front.

I cleaned out the green house today. I'll be using it to cure my sweet potatoes, should I get any. We could have days in the 80s, the first week of October, and that should be good for them. I really want these to do well. They took up a lot of garden space.

Do you brew your own beer? Or is there another use for hops?

My husband brews beer. I tried looking up recepies with hops in them once but never tried them. We grow 4 different varieties (centennial, cashmere, nugget, and cascade). Each variety has it's unique aroma.

I just grow and harvest them and this is the first year we have a decent harvest. The plants are 2 years old and will continue to fill out for the next few years.

I've brewed beer using hops I grew when I was down in the city. Turned out pretty well for homegrown ingredients. Unfortunately my hop crop failed this year. I need more soil amendments for where the hop garden is. I was too lazy for proper gardening this year. Next year will be better.

I'm sure lazy is not exactly what you mean Raz - exhausted, injured, sore, overworked? Not sure if there is just one word for all that.

You have to watch those squirrels. Tricksy little gymnastic devils.
