Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Do you have a certain breed or two that you recommend as being best?
I second the Chantecler rooster! Snowbird has NO signs of any frostbite.

Actually, even Robin, who has the biggest comb of any of my birds, doesn't show any signs of frostbite either. I'm very happy about this, considering we've had some really cold nights and days recently.

Hello! Hope everyone is staying warm.
I’m looking to expand my flock and I want a good setting breed that is very cold tolerant. BO came to mind first, but then a friend suggested Buff Rock is better. Never heard of it.. anyone have an opinion?
My new dream breeds are Blue copper Marans, Speckled Sussex and Silverudds Blue (Isbar) but I am not having luck finding them in hatcheries, so I’m looking at eggs.

We've had buff Plymouth Rocks from MMcM, and loved them! Very nice hens, didn't have a rooster of that type. And French Marans, any color, from Cackle are really nice, and chocolate eggs. Speckled Sussex hens are a favorite here, so interactive, beautiful, and pretty good layers.
We never warmed up to our buff Orphingtons, just not terrific like so many people report. Short lived, too, at least the few we had, once.
Try a few of any breed that looks interesting and see who you like.
Mary
