Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

There are fortunately no outstanding ice cream shops nearby. I do stop occasionally at the Dairy Queen for a heavenly chocolate chunk and strawberry flurry.
I used to love DQ's Buster bars...ice cream parfait with fudge and peanuts covered with a chocolate shell...on a stick.
:love

Mikey's Ice Cream is brand new and I've heard nothing but rave reviews. This outside boxing match... Like live people? I knew there was a reason I stayed out of downtown in the summer 😂
Yes, real people. Boxing ring set up and all.. We were pretty surprised. Enjoyed our stay. Looking forward to next year.

Hi everyone! Definitely enjoying the cooler sunny weather this week here on the west side. The fall is my favorite time of year and a little sneak preview is kind of nice. :)

Quick update. Trying to get my coop built while my wife and I have a new baby at home and I've been back to work for a couple of weeks. Well, I'm only up to a floor and 3 framed walls.

My goal was to have it more or less complete this month so we could still get chicks that can grow enough to handle cooler temps later this year.

Some friends of us told us to just get the chicks anyway! We still have 6-8 weeks for them to be in the brooder, and since we plan on them mostly free ranging anyway, we can just complete the coop part, and take our time with the run once they're out there, as long as it's before we get a bunch of snow. Good incentive to get it done.

So, yesterday, my kids and I ran to the family farm and home in Greenville and picked up some new friends!

We have two Buff Orpingtons, two Blue Orpingtons, and two Plymouth Rock pullets.

The coop is going to be 8'x12' so they'll have plenty of room. We'll add another half dozen hens in the spring.

Oh yeah, also the chicken that showed up in our yard a couple of months ago was a rooster. So I more aggressively knocked on doors until I found where he escaped from. Just had to go one more ring of neighbors out from where I looked last time. Turned out he was originally in a flock in town where they couldn't have roosters so was rehomed out here.

I'm looking forward to sharing our journey with everyone!
