Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I'm fighting this too this year! Aging hens not producing well, so do we buy chicks? From Cackle, where the ones I want are? Local feed stores, who have 'whatever'? Hope to hatch some of our own?
Must decide! Right now Cackle is calling to me...
Speckled Sussex and Buckeyes! Anyone interested?

Since yesterday, when I considered ordering those Buckeyes and SS, availability has gone for the dates I wanted. :barnie So much for this spring! Maybe something at TSC, or it's time to separate the flock into breeding groups at home...

If you are near Leslie, Jackson Farms Feed & Seed has Buckeyes from Mt Healthy on order for June 11 hatch. No idea if she has any left available as she takes pre-orders.

I introduce my flocks next weekend and I'm hoping to get fertile eggs from it. I'm waiting for my one hen to go broody, which usually happens mid-April, so I'm surprised she hasn't gone, yet. Probably because I actually want her to go broody this year! 🤦‍♀️ Really looking forward to Ayam Cemani mixes with my current flock. The color variations would be awesome.

I ordered from Cackle in 2023. They didn't have what I wanted when I wanted, nothing available until August. Then they emailed me and said they were going to have chicks when I wanted them, after all. I got Dominiques and have been very happy with them.

I think I was put on a waiting list, don't recall.

My sister surprised me with two five week old pullets, she likes to hatch and gives the chicks away. I had told her I wouldn't mind a few chicks but of course was not prepared. So today I came home from work and cleaned out the little chicken coop so that they can live out there instead of in the crate at my office. Two cute little girls.
