Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

YES! THANK YOU!!!
We have another event, the Midwest Ox Drover's annual meeting, the weekend after father's day, and this year folks from Germany are coming too, and DH must be there!
And so I'm delighted to be with you all on the 13th!

Extra chicks needed a new home, anyone interested?
Hatched mid September, from Townline hatchery. Listed as porcelain Belgian d'Uccles, although they aren't bearded. A pair, very cute, but not needed here.

Ducks are a whole different story. They thrive in cold weather and snow. They basically only need a protected shelter to go into at night. They are also extremely messy, so I'm not sure a wooden floor would be a real great idea, they might do better just on dirt. Instead of a hoop coop, you might think about an A-frame shelter.
Mine do great in an old goat house I built years ago. Wooden floor works great and keeps critters out at night. Just keep it clean.

Finally I was able to let the Thanksgiving youngsters out with the main flock! The snow is melting, so everyone could meet outside, and have space to get acquainted safely. They've been separated by hardware cloth for weeks, so all is well.
And one of our almost three year old Chantie hens died, abdominal issues/ egg bound, never good. She 'seemed' fine until one night, and was dead within twenty hours. Birds need to live well longer, blast it!
Love that it's actually melting out here, it's been a very long cold January. A friend saw a pair of Bluebirds today! We have them here, need more nest boxes, but we doo see them. Not yet though this year...
