Quote: when I ordered my Dom peeps from Cackle Hatchery, they threw in 2 extras, one was a Cornish Cross and at a few weeks old they all started picking on it real bad. Drawing blood and all it looked really nasty, so I cleaned him up and raised him all alone in the tractor I have, He did fine in it even thru the night hours tho he never got up on the roosts at all, always just nested on the ground. He reached 11 weeks old and was HUGE, I mean GiNORmous Big and I finally had to butcher him because I fear'd the next bad heatwave that was coming up would take him out for sure.
Hey Jen, I thought RIR's weren't supposed to go broody?? I have one who's been setting for a week, think I should give her a couple eggs and see what happens??Hey! I'm glad they posted the new link!!! Not sure what all happened because I've been a little busy and haven't made it on here much but that just means I'm not a trouble maker...right? LOL
Hope everyone is doing well!![]()

If it were me, I'd totally let that broody RIR have a go at hatching eggs, if you want more chicks!
I actually gave two broody hens three chicks each this morning, before dawn. They are Araucanas I hatched in my incubator. I like broodies who raise the chicks, but I like having control of incubation. This is the first time for each broody, and they've been at it for almost a month. But they're acting like stellar mothers already, doing everything right and being very doting to their new babies!
I didn't post it to cause problems... just was trying to be punny...sorry.BackyardFarmMom - (NOT brilliant) lets not go there either we've had enough controversy for now.
Sorry to hear thatHave a young one with a mostly useless leg, am thinking we are going to have to cull her. Am not looking forward to this as it will be the first time we have had to do this.
