Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

M. Sue, I got a neighbor who just lost a whole batch in an incubator, wanted to know if I had any fertiles, I may but I don't know, the one young rooster is attempting but some of the older gals just laugh at him, the younger ones aren't ev en laying yet, He's a beautiful DOminique. WOndering if you're getting any fertiles he might get from you. His name on here is 3For Free. He lives somewhere near or off Knight Rd.
Oh for sure, bring the kids to see Mr. Chopper!!
I've got 2 Roos and they are active. I'd be happy to give him eggs although I don't know which ones would be fertile. I'm gonna be out of town this weekend, leaving tomorrow morning. I could give him today's eggs, he could swing by & get them later tonight, early tomorrow morning or just wait til I get back and get others. Can't give him any collected over the weekend for the young man that attends to my flock in my absence takes them home as a bonus.

Question: If he wants them should I refrigerate them or leave them at room temp? I always refrigerate after I collect.

Tell him to feel free to shoot me PM if interested!

I'm not 100% sure on this, but my BIL's FIL tried to do something like this a few years ago (only it was to flip properties and get rich quick
roll.png
) and I *think* that whomever BUYS the property is responsible for paying the back-taxes within a certain amount of time.
You are correct, all back taxes must be paid within a time frame. Right now it's under 800$, and even if this doesn't happen till next year, the taxes aren't that high because it's undeveloped land. I talked to my DH about actually talking to the BF to see if he would sell it to us if he held the deed. If the FIL has any tips on buying the property, I'm all ears!
Raz, Excellent job yesterday...thank you!! In a way what you're experiencing at home, could work in your favor. and in the long run benefit you and others in your situation. If it doesn't affect your court case, I would try and use the media to your advantage. Instead of getting you into trouble.. your neighbor may actually be helping you! Can you say BACKFIRE! LOL!
HA! I was not going to put up any curtains in the living room cause what I have will clash with the new colors........ Last night DH said I should get new ones to match... he said it, so that's what I'm a gonna do! And it looks like we'll be needing a new washer n dryer... the dryer is ok, but we're so disenchanted with the Bosch brand that he wants them both gone!

Good morning btw!

Music, I like lots.. blues, pipe band (bagpipe), rock, hard rock, Dupstep, electroica etc... my fav band is KoRn as many of you already know.

Be on the look out for tomato caterpillars - found the first one on my maters yesterday.

SO thankful for the rain. It's been nice not having to mow the lawn all summer, but everything looks horrible. My pond, that I stocked fish in last summer... only has a couple feet left in it... it's moved about 20 ft from the shore edge. I hope a few of the fish survived.

I've been having to force the turkeys out of the chicken yard to get to the grass etc.. they are not comfortable leaving it. I want them to have free run of the larger yard and get them away from the chicken yard. Not easy to herd easily confused critters! i think I need an access door to the area I want them to use and that will eliminate the problem.

The Sumatra boys are starting to get their tail feathers.. I think I have 4 roos and one hen. They pretty much have free reign of the property..... like I have a choice with these guys... they're like a bunch of little hoodlums running around! Once they fill out, I'm picking the roo I like and will put him in a tractor with the hen. So, at some point, maybe next year chicken stock, i will have 3 handsome males to re-home and maybe some chicks too! Dh actually likes them. The Uggos are getting filled out. I worry sometimes about the black silkie, omg, he is the sweetest bird. I pick him up and can carry him around.. he just makes a soft clucking sound..... I don't think he can see a thing though. Does anyone else trim facial feathers around their silkies eyes?

BackyardFarmMom - (NOT brilliant) lets not go there either we've had enough controversy for now.
BobBry, your previous post you were referring to (on the other board?), no need to apologize.
Mrsshaggie... I have a hard plastic form pond that I will be selling at my garage sale later next month... if you are interested let me know. If you're landlord doesn't want anything put in ground, you may be able to get away with building a landscaping or cinder block frame to support the pond, and provide a ramp for the ducks to walk up to it, and it would make it easier to drain the pond if you installed a drain in the side or bottom of it. Just a thought. Not sure where Dryden is though. Looks like it's about 1.5 hrs away. Up to you!

I've had that thought, too.

The Polish rooster crowed right in front of my daughter yesterday. I think she understands why Penny had to go live on a farm, now.

Who has a good recipe that calls for anise? Our anise plant is on its second year, and is thriving! I have a cookie recipe, but I'm looking for more things to do with the seeds and the greens.

I also scavenge the free wood pile TSC leaves out front and got alot of boards that look like ripped apart pallets, but with no nail holes in them at all, so they make up the top.
It was mostly made from scraps around here, except for the original 2x4x12's, I used 6 of those.

I so wish my TSC did this, or my Home Depot sold culled lumber, alas, TSC laughed at me when I asked so I have been too chicken to ask at Home Depot...I never see anything though, so I just assume they don't. :/ I got a bunch of free pallets from hubby's work though, so I think we should be good.
I googled Dryden, you're south of I69. I'm way further north, only 35 miles southwest of Alpena, just north of M72.. I'm guessing a bit over a 3 hour drive. Oh well, it was nice thinking someone was near me for a minute.

Boo! I was hoping! :( We might be going North to camp that way towards the end of the month, or early September though. :D I was at Neebish Island in the UP earlier this month...I bet I passed by lots of you! :D

Where is the ChickenStock Up North going to be?

Hello all! Getting 4-5 eggs a day now and am loving fresh eggs for breakfast everyday. Have a young one with a mostly useless leg, am thinking we are going to have to cull her. Am not looking forward to this as it will be the first time we have had to do this.

I have feed all my adult birds layer for years without any problems however many folks I know feed "Flock Raiser" with good success
Good morning, peeps! I use Kent's "All Flock" which is like Flock Raiser. It comes in a small pelleted form, and mine seem to waste much less of that than crumbles. It has a bit higher protein, which I appreciate, but you DO need to offer free-choice oyster shell as it has no calcium in it.

Howdy all, I was told about the new thread by Chicken Grandma, alot of you already know me, some probably don't...I ain't been here in a long while. I'm in mid-Michigan and up to 32 chickens from 4 (I know-it's a miracle how that happens huh?)
I still have my originals, a couple of them are broody right now.
My17 Dominiques I ordered this spring are now at 18 weeks! Some alot more mature than others, it's very visable. I lost a couple as babies from pasty butt.
My 7 pure Canadian Chanteclers I got from Jim Hall, lost one egg, the other 6 are magnificent and soon to be 10 weeks old, 2 are roosters and 4 are pullets.
I picked up my first pig, an American Guinea Hog, what a Charmer he is. He's now at 16 weeks old.
Well, toodles, I'll try to come around more often, been working on building chicken tractors for people. fun on the farm.

HIYA! Been awhile....glad to see you back!

I second Townline! Just processed 19 last weekend at 10 weeks and I didn't have any health issues with them except trying to keep them cool through the heatwave lol.

I'm thinking we may want to pm some of the missing members with a link to this new MI thread. Especially the newbies may not know we still exit.
I added a link at the very end of the old one to this new one - did that just this morning. Grammi PM'd me and asked me to add it, which was a great idea!
