Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Do you watch the news at all? These people are all over the news regularly!!!
I'm not going to say how I feel about them, but I suspect many others feel the same. Especially if they were or had a loved one in the military.
Please look up news articles on the westboro baptist church and you can see for yourself

There's a difference between understanding and being aware. I know all about this group, but I don't understand them at all.

Farmerboy, what a crazy pig story. Glad healing sees to be going well. Continued thoughts for Micah and his whole family.

Nova, I love that setup - it looks great! I thought it was on blacktop, too.

Is this a bantam cochin? This chicken is at the John Ball Zoo, and I admire her every time we go. If Townline supplies these, I might try to figure out how to identify them in the bantam barrel in the Spring. Can they be feather sexed?

My political view... You have a choice, vote... Who do I vote for? The one that lies the best. LOL

Religion... I believe. I have a Bible. I can read it and interpret my self.

There is nothing to fight over. I won't fight with you on it. I am right. I know it. HAHA.

I protest for good causes, child abuse, animal abuse, govt abuse. I do not protest at serviceman's funerals. This is the job they chose. I do not feel this make them a hero for doing their job. It makes them a HERO for protecting ME and MY country. They would not have been there to begin with if those individuals hadn't attacked us first. Our service men do not go into these countries and do a half-rear job.

Just like a fireman or a policeman. They are not heroes just because they do those jobs. They are heroes when they go above and beyond the call of duty and save lives. There is no protesting that. None at all. Besides, the military for the greater part is an honorable job choice for our country's young men and woman. To protest them...

Well, go live in a commune, keep to yourself, you are not an American. Be like that movie... the one where they go and live in the middle of a preserve and pretend they are not part of the rest of the world. Better yet, give them their own island, and be sure to accidental bomb it during the next world war. I may not agree with the choices our govt makes at times, but I sure will not turn my back on an American Veteran or active duty soldier or protest a funeral of one. Those people... Well that's like treason to me. I know it isn't, but it feels like it. Its seditious behavior.

Okay, we are from "Our Roost" started in Freesoil Michigan. We have 2 roo's and 21 hens @ 4 months. Lost 2 birds to predators. Remembrance of grandparents and the great depression years prompted us to start this project and to get grandchildren involved. At 65 yrs of age, we are both having a blast and pulling our feathers out as we learn so much! Assuming this "Thread" is for Michiganians? We both hail from Dearborn Heights originally and welcome conversation from others located throughout this great state of ours. Any 4H members or up and coming chicken events whithin the state we would like to hear about. If anyone is near Freesoil or the Manistee area send us a line! If not, send us a line anyway!

This is what I woke up to this morning. The view right out of my bedroom window.

Later in the afternoon, 4 mallard hens flew into the yard. They mingled with the other ducks, had a bite to eat and then left before sundown.

Yea ducks!

Our Roost- WELCOME!

Farmerboy - Those emu look like they are friendly.  Are they?

Huh, let me tell you about it!
Yesterday, I had cleaned out the brooder shed where I keep the brooders in, and its the Emus's home until I get the breeder coop cleaned out and finished. Anyway, got it cleaned out and spread the new shavings around in the shed, then I laid down on the floor enjoying the nice clean shed. The emus walked in the shed and started pecking my shirt, Ann leaned over and made a very big peck on my.........nose! It was very painful.... :hit The moral of the story is.... Never lie down on the floor where the nose pecking varmints can reach! lol But I just remember, they will be about 5 to 6 feet tall when fully grown! Uh, I may have to wear a good mask around them to protect my nose. LOL

Yes, yes they are really friendly anyway. They follow me where ever I go. I love those silly birds. lol

Howdy, everyone...

I'm in Midland, MI - still working hard to be able to HAVE coop....there is a group of us working to change the proposed draft of the 2013 GAAMPS to provide better protection for urban farms under Michigan's Right to Farm Act -

We would appreciate any and all support that other chicken owners can provide - we have created a facebook page:

www.facebook.com/BYChickenKeepersofMI

If you could/would "like" and share that page, and then stay tuned for our 'plan of action' with regards to the upcoming GAAMPS vote, we would appreciate it!

Welcome! If I have facebook I will like it, but I don't.... But like it for me. :D

Farmerboy: Sorry about your nephew.  I have not been around for very long.  What is his diagnosis if you don't mind sharing?  I will keep him in prayer.

Sure.

He is due in October 26th, if he survives that long, if he does, he will die as soon the cord is cut, for he has serious heart issue, and many other issues. The doctors have found what is causing him to have these problems. His 5th and 14th chromosomes have for some reason had broken off, so the blueprint for Micah was missing information to build him, resulting lots of problems. Plus the broken parts had reattached themselves to the different parts of the chromosomes, making the building process confused with the misinformation. I am so sad for the little guy, but I know that God knows what is best for him and all of us. We still continue to treat Micah as a human being, which he is very much so, and love him as part of the family. I love him, even though I have never held him or met him.

This image was taken when he was 20 weeks old. I love his smile.

Farmerboy - Can't believe you saved that piglet. Wow, what a story. Is infection a possibility?

We were pouring iodine on her almost the whole time, and soaked the threads in iodine before using on her. Plus gave her 1 ml of penicillin. It seems to be doing the job. I will check her over well in the morning.

in other news.......... DH GOT THE JOB!!!   I'm very happy for him!

:woot

I had checked into getting KuneKune's but WOW a breeding pair of them are SO expensive, but they are a smaller and more rare hog and VERY docile, also not known to root so much and tear up the place.  I may check with you in the spring and get a pair of AGH.

Just let me know when you are ready. :)

Got the layer coop cleaned out! I am so glad that is done!  Does anyone care to guess how many wheelbarrow loads of manure I took out of the coop?

Good night!
