Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

We have a bit of liquid sunshine here.
Unfortunately Mr. Duck is not smiling this morning. Last night 4 wild mallard hens flew into the yard. They ate and hung around for about an hour then left before sundown. They must have said something to the 2 young hens. They are gone and the drake is going crazy looking for them.
he must be like a nerd duck or something. Can he fly? The girls must have said, "If you want us you will have to chase us"...

Certainly not a nerd. This drake has raised 3 groups of little ones. He is the Uber-dad of ducks. He keeps flying from the backyard to the front, looking for the girls.

PS You can stop by for coffee on your way out to Milford.

Thank you for the offer Randy- and if you lived between here and 275 I would have taken you up on that offer.

The agenda thus far is McDonalds, 275 to 96 to Milford Rd to lost.

Do skunks pose any threat to chickens?

It seems I have a few living in the yard somewhere. I caught a young one when I noticed something digging under the coop at night. The coop is raised and the nights that it dug under were also rainy nights so maybe it was just looking for shelter, there were no signs it tried to actually get in the coop.
I've seen two other young skunks run off in the early morning on separate days. I know it's two because one has the typical split white stripes and the other has a solid white back. Both weren't too afraid of me, I got within a few feet of them without them raising their tails or taking off running. I didn't want to risk a spraying so I didn't follow them to wherever they're hiding out at.

Perhaps not to full size chickens, but they are omnivores and do like eggs. I suppose they could go after roosting chickens if they got into the coop. Keep them out just to be safe.

They do like grubs and worms, so maybe that was why it was digging under the coop.

Well, off to check all the animals, and get more things done.

to the two newbies!!

It's still raining, ok, it can stop now. Going camping Monday and would like it dry. Had plans today to pull some of the weeds in my weed garden. Thought for a change,I would uncover some of the flowers that are there....some where.
Enjoy the day......

I'm up...feeling sleepy, and overall cruddy, I really need to get back to going to bed earlier and getting up early. I need to go make some coffee, but I don't really feel like moving...I guess I get to work on the duck house in the light showers today...maybe I'll put up our tarp canopy for a little protection...probably not though. lol. I hope I can work quickly, the ducks need the room, and I want some chickens! Hopefully the coffee with get my butt in gear...and I need to do some laundry too.

Forgot to push post reply...UPDATE!!!! I NOW HAVE COFFEE! lol! Yay!

At just under 19 weeks one of my Golden Buffs has laid an egg! Found it in the litter amongst the old unhatched guinea eggs. (I have now removed them). It was so dirty it could have been there yesterday and I just didn't see it. Blighter is ignoring the nest boxes! It's even possible this is actually the second egg. I found a much smaller one yesterday and thought by the shape it was a guinea egg. It's much paler but it was very clean so I brought it in anyway. Still, got one for sure! Been more than a year since I've had fresh chicken eggs.
