Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Hey all,
Today was a good day.... so far. The weather held off and a very fine marine was laid to rest peacefully. I don't know about the other soldiers funerals, but today there wasn't any hope THOSE people would get close enough to protest jack!!!
I hope you all have a great day, I'm off to Muskegon!

chickenpox, huh? Guess I feel like that to some people.
Crappy day. I'm done with the rain. Ready for some warmth and sunshine again.
Garden is too wet to work. Pulled some weeds, but don't like playing in the mud.
Got a roast in the crock pot. BBQ beef sandwiches for the camping trip. What else is good for camping? Got some stuff packed in the camper. Oh, just too much to think of right now.

Nova, that would totally tick me off. I have Cherokee Purple tomatoes and my BF is convinced there is something wrong with them.

Amy, that looks like a poor-quality bantam cochin. They have feathered feet as chicks, but so do brahmas. The chicks in my avatar are blue and splash bantam cochins.

Hi to all the new folks :D

I am convinced that Bag Balm will cure anything that it can be applied to, including canker sores.

The funeral here in Holland was not disturbed. There was a procession so long that people were lined up in sitting chairs to watch. John was PO,ed because it held him up. He unfortunately is very ill informed and thinks that the protesters were to be there to protest the war and why should there be such a big brouhaha for a soldier doing his job when kids here are dying every day from the wars on the streets and hunger, and they don't get such a funeral. OMG, I have never wanted to hit anybody so bad. I asked him, do you even know what Westboro baptist position really is, and he said yes, he's talked to several of them, and you have to read between the lines... WHAT? OMG.. I shut up. I will not fight about this in my house with a person like that in front of my kids. That man is... Boy... govt hand out loving Marxist socialist asterisk.

I got behind on the Michigan thread, like 13 pages....

Good evening all! Today was awesomely successful. I PR'd(personal record) in my 5k run with a time of 28:57! My previous best time was 31:02. It was so beautiful and cool this morning and running along the bluff in South Haven made me want to lift my hands in praise at God's beauty while I ran.

I've been dealing with a pulled outer hip muscle so now that the run is over my hip is loudly expressing it's anger at being worked today. Nothing a little ice, rest and flexeril can't handle! Our last scheduled race of the year is September 8th at the Paw Paw Grape run and that will complete my series and I will have earned my commemorative coin!

AND! This is what I found behind the brooder box today when I realised that the silkies were hatching a day early and had to hurry to get them in here and Skeeter back in a different next box with the Aug 25 hatch. SHE WAS SO MAD! Until I put her on her eggs. Well anyway...

They were under a shelf, behind the brooder, between, they had to go around my air compressor, which blocks it pretty good. They had to squeeze between the compressor and the wall! OMG, 3 different chickens eggs here. LOL.
That's crazy! Why do they go to such lengths to hide their eggs!? I'm sorry about your tomatoes. I don't understand why people would steal others food.

Can someone please answer this before it gets buried? I know I can look at other images on the computer to confirm, but I'm trying to gain some chicken ID confidence. Thanks.

Nova, sweet chicks. We're looking for silkies for next spring, too. Black skin, more toes than normal, and feathered legs is the way to ID those in a chick crowd, right?
I would guess bantam cochin but I don't really know.

I'm in Southwest Michigan in a small town called "Paw Paw". We're about 25 minutes west of Kalamazoo. We raise Dark Campbell Ducks, Pilgrim Geese, Buff Orpingtons, Dominiques, Silkies, Pekin (Cochin Bantams), and various other bantams. We also have a pet Mallard, pet White Pekin Duck, and pet Embden Goose. Anyone else in the Paw Paw area?
Welcome! I only live 15 minutes from Paw Paw in the even smaller town of Hartford!

So GLAD to hear there were no problems!

BTW....our soldier came home to us today to Selfridge AFB in a flag-covered coffin. It was an honor to receive him and he was given an honor guard to see him off to the funeral home. Military lined both sides of the street as we left Selfridge and 10 police cars from State, Sheriff, County and City tagged teamed it all the way down Hall Road to the funeral home on 22 Mile and Schoenherr...no other cars were allowed on the road. They zoomed by us and blocked every interesection and turn around and saluted the hearse as we passed. I have never seen Hall Road without traffic in my lifetime. I really think my nephew was looking down from heaven with that little smile and going "cool."
