Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Opinions, please:

I was brought up that it is your hard work and the little extras that get you noticed in life, but it has been my experience at my jobs that it is who you know and how you look that get you promoted. (I still get noticed, thanked, but passed for promotion)

Is this anyone else's experience too? Most of my aquaintances say "brands don't matter" "who cares what others think" and stuff along that line, which normally i would agree with, but i'm hitting mid-life and i want to do better at my next job.

I also like keeping my house company-ready (no kids) and i feel that it is more welcoming to guests than having to clear a seat, but with this crowd it goes mostly unappreciated.........

Am i being too obsessive, or is there something to this "if you want to get treated first class you have to look first class" stuff???

You sure touched a nerve with me! I've worked hard and I've worked smart, but I was always passed over by those who worked "pretty". Or worked politically.

Brands do matter in the corporate world, what others think can help or hurt your career. Appearances matter far more than what people want to admit. That's a dirty little secret that no one will ever admit to. Hitting mid-life should not be an issue, but reality suggests that it is a factor. At least from my point of view.

I don't think that you are being "obsessive", I just think that if you are worried about what the "crowd" thinks, then you are missing the fact that you are "first class" and it doesn't matter what the guests think.

If you really want to be "first class" then be true to yourself. You can't make people like you or appreciate you, but you can like and appreciate your own self through your own eyes and not the eyes of others. Do that and you can't go wrong. Who cares what the crowd thinks. Smile and wink at them and they will go crazy trying to figure out what you know that they don't.

I cannot believe that in my absence you guys were so naughty as to get the thread closed down. All of that bad behavior, and I wasn't even there.

So... I have been gone because my kitchen... well...

...oops?

Amazing what they have to do even for a relatively small fire...

I told you not to be cooking meth in the house!

It's getting there, and it will be better. In fact, they kind of make periodically setting your own kitchen on fire sound tempting. The wiped down practically every bloitin thing in my house, to the extent that they dumped out a container of cassette tapes, (what? I like my tape collection...) cleaned each of them, cleaned the container, then put them all back. They even went through my cabinets. It was amazing. They should wear fairy wings.

We've had paint for the kitchen for over 2 years now, and it will finally get painted, they are rebuilding the cabinets, replacing the wallpaper, and possibly the counters as well. I get to pick out a new oven, microwave, hood, and a bunch of other small things, like he clock and kettle. I liked my kettle, though, that's about the only thing I am bummed about... I didn't catch them in time to tell them that it pretty much looked like that before the fire, lol.

on a brighter note, look at all the fencing I was given FREE today...Yeah, the Lord provides!! I invited the kids to come over and see my chickens and the pig.

Even the posts and finials!!

Cleaning fairies? Ooooooooohhhhh, I want one!!!
If any of you won the powerball, Congrats and I need a new barn. :lau
I'm running out of room thanks to DH and Robin!!! Lol

Juise I'm glad it was just the kitchen, those things can be much worse!!

Fuzzy, unfortunately you are exactly right. I spent much time " keeping up appearances " it got me where I wanted to go and made me lots of money. I had of all I did it all but I wasn't happy. I was waisting too much time and energy on what others thought.
Now I'm in a new town, no one knows who I am or what I've done in my life, and I'm good here!! There's no pressure or expectations. All the extremely expensive shoes and purses are gathering dust, my kids and birds don't care if I'm wearing prada or carrying coach. Be you and rock what you've got!!!

Aww, Tap, whats wrong?
Bantam roosters who are full of themselves. I discovered my silkie, Snowball who was going to go to the fair with a big bloody bald spot on the top of her head, witnessed a huge chase fight between two roosters, Sherman, Mr. Dorking got into it with Yuri, one of my young Orloffs. Then Al my wonderful second in command rooster starts being a food bully, and those are just the highlights. Then add the rest of the young roosters in: Frodo, Pippin, Teri, Buzz, Elvis, Fred, Stevie, Sparrow. Anyone want a rooster?

Cleaning fairies? Ooooooooohhhhh, I want one!!!
x2 I'll take the cleaning fairies. I'm glad the fire was just an annoyance and that you were fine.

galdahmae - congrats on eggs! I love those Houdan's. Happy hatching.

ChicwannaB - nice fence, real nice price.

ladyrsanti - LOVE the butt pictures!

Picked more Blackberries last night and HAD to make my son a pie with the ones he picked. Today we start on chicken baths and grooming for the fair. The fair starts on Sunday but the chickens aren't judged until next Thursday. I have Salsa and Jam to can today and some sewing to get finished. It looks like we may actually get a few drops of rain today so I may not have to water the garden.
