Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Elliemae, hog or cattle panels, solidly attached, covered by chicken wire with hardware cloth at the bottom (ideally buried as well) will keep out just about everything except a bear.

Blossom end rot is supposed to be calcium-deficiency related, but is also is more likely in plants that are stressed from uneven watering - very dry to very wet and back. A little bone meal in the hole when you plant them helps.

Powdery mildew spray -
1 qt water
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp Murphy's Oil Soap
1 tsp liquid soap (eg dishwashing) WITHOUT antibacterial agents (Triclosan)

Mix together and mist plants and leaves, including the undersides. Spray every week, and after it rains. Spray the surrounding ground as well.

Quote: Sounds like its time to weed with the weed whip. I had to do that when we came back from vacation. It just helped get a handle back on weeding again.

Oh, that is interesting. I did not know that a duck and a goose would bond! How sweet!

My buddy Miss Lydia has ducks & geese, and one older Male goose who has been raised with ducks and has never had a female of his own kind...he was very bonded to "his" ducks, and Miss Lydia got him a goose just a week or so ago...it's taking him a good amount of time to form a bond to her, but he's coming around. She had to remove the two ducks that were in with him first, though.

Bunny,
I am laughing because I am the same way. I get very upset with each loss. Very upset.
I am sorry about the egg. Farming is tough! Even back yard farming!

I'm glad you're getting a laff outta it, I'm still kicking myself. Mostly for all the work that poor hen has been doing. Now she is starting all over cuz of ME. And how I could miss those eyes!! They were so big and black, I just don't know.

Well, how did you think they played duck, duck, goose?

Well, THAT could definitely be the problem after this Summer...

I found this website for companion planting. http://www.ghorganics.com/page2.html

I have a chart my mum sent me, I hope it's readable:

I find the chart format a lot easier to work with, I have a larger chart I made on paper, as well, from compiling different information.

And how I could miss those eyes!! They were so big and black, I just don't know.

I would be struggling for a long time, too.

That would freak me out! I know you feel guilty, but you didn't know. We all make mistakes that we kick ourselves for.

Our garden is hit and miss also. We got lots of cukes. Tomatoes are green and staying that way. They seem to spilt alot. Grape tomatoes?? More like pea tomatoes.

Ellie, I got my blue Orps from Shelleyb in Brown City. If you go to her website at Starbrightfarms, you can see what she has. She has a facebook page also. She has silkies too, beautiful birds. Other breeds, also. Check her out.

What a beautiful day!! Hope you all get out and enjoy it.

Still have two beautiful bantam Favorelle roos, maybe mixed with Wyandotte, but I don't see it. Need good home. Free!!

Bunny, I only laughed that you fainted at the vets. And I only laugh because I have almost fainted a few times there also! My late husband was fainting in the delivery room. It creates chaos!

As far as losing the embryo, that would be hard for me also, so I was not laughing at that. I take losses really hard. Even little ones. With my poor eyesight and my aging brain, I am afraid that I could have missed the signs of development also. We are human. Hugs, Nancy
