Yes Amy, I get mine all at Meijer in the laundry aisle. The longest part of this process is grating and melting the soap. And even then it's fast. You can use the soap right away or let it sit. Doesn't affect the cleaning properties at all. I bought a cheap metal grater to use for the soap. I think it was about $3 but I bet you could find one at a dollar store too.

Ingredients:3 quarts of water1 bar of fels naptha soap2 cups of borax2 cups of washing soda
2 quarts of boiling water2 gallons + 2 quarts of waterPreparation:First, using a food processor or manual grater, finely grate the bar of soap.Bring 3 quarts of water to a boil on the stove and slowly add the soap, stirring gently.Reduce the heat and let it simmer gently until all of the pieces of soap are melted/dissolved.Add the borax and washing soda and stir until they are dissolved.In a separate pot, heat up the 2 quarts of water or measure out very hot tap water.Pour the soap/borax/soda mixture into a large container and slowly add the 2 quarts of hot water to it. Stir until well mixed.
Add the 2 gallons + 2 quarts of waterStir until the mixture is well mixed.Let it sit overnight. It will "gel" together...kind of a custard-like consistency. I've also heard it described as "thick egg drop soup."Stir or shake the soap each time you use it.
This recipe makes 4 gallons ( enough for a month at my house)Use 1/2 c per load.
I store it in 1 gallon jugs, i recycle and its easier for me to handle



I have to make a batch this weekend, so if anyone wants to see how it's done first feel free to come by.

The Walmart in my area just started carrying all of the ingredients, but in other areas Meier is the way to go.

My daughter has been making this soap for the last four years. That's the last time I bought store soap. She got the recipe from that reality show "19 Kids and Counting" because they make all of their own products. I always have several jugs in the laundry room and it works just as well as any store soap I've ever used.

Homemade L. S. can be used for HE
1 4lb12oz.. box Borax....1-4lb. box Arm & Hammer baking soda ......1-55oz. box Arm & Hammer super washing soda....3bars fels naptha .....2 small containers of oxyclean(about 4 1/2 cups if you buy the big box).....


mix in 5 gal bucket with a garbage bag(/don't know why you need the garbage bag?) Grate soap like cheese in bucket put all contents in bucket and mix....use 1 Tablespoon per load

this cost more because of the Oxy clean, ...I think you could dissolve in water before use, or maybe prepare as the liquid I had an empty 4lb animal cracker container -2jars I gave to my girls to try.

I know the feeling snowflake. Last year I bought 2 big upright freezers off of CL for $40.00 each. by the time I got one home, it wouldn't work. But the other is now so full that I can hardly get anymore in it. I already had a smaller one and that one is filling fast. Now DH says he may go deer hunting this year (he doesn't hardly ever go). He almost always gets a deer within about 15 mins. so I don't know where I will put that one.

My DH just bought a muzzle loader mag. I think that is were I saw it. has very good directions on canning and he used the same pressure cooker I have.Plan on trying it this yr. not sure about the hamburg though?...He did chunks sounded very good



back to my canning now, have one more batch to do.... So you will all feel better I did get the pressure cooker out. 10 min at 10lbs still takes longer then the old way, had a jar pop open,,, never had that happen before.....have to clean out pc before I put in the last batch.....I don't think my mother was just lucky....that was how it was done then. tomatoes had more acid and they new what they were doing, But that was then, this is now and we do the best we can

I've been making laundry soap for years!! It saves a TON of money. I can do laundry for 6 people for roughly $40 a year!! Is your recipe for powder? Mine is liquid, just seems to go through the front loader better

Does anyone. Need a dog coop? We put a door on it and put the ducks in it when they were small. Now they are huge and have out grown it. It is just sitting there, I'd like someone to get some use out of it

I seriously almost ordered a dog house for Peep and his soon to be bride just last night!! Can you post a pic of what you have and maybe I'll buy it off you when I pick up the duck When I first got out coop, I used to pick up Peep every night and put him in with the chickens, thinking that the ramp was too narrow for him. I built a new ramp and the very first night it was up he used it, but has not used it since. He's been sleeping in the 4' x 8' run under the coop on a pile of straw. I'm worried about his safely at night since all that's between him and the creatures of the night is regular chicken wire....I was thinking dog house, so I could close him up at night and he'd have a place out of the elements for the winter.
