Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

DH and I were in Home Depot and was looking at this sheetiing for roofs. I thought it was plsatic but he said it was fiberglass. Either way it was like 50 years durability.
Yeah.....I think it's called Ondura....or at least that's one of the brands. Not sure if it would be the best application since it gets sun all.day.long. in our location, but we're definately looking into that as well. I'd kind of like to NOT use shingles and install gutters and collect rainwater for the waterers, or for the garden, but the budget dictates what we'll use.

Mmm. canned venison. I have had it canned using beef suet, and when you cook with it, you can't tell the difference. Except the backstraps, don't do that to them!!!! I'd make room in my freezer for some good steaks. :)

Nothing like being a cow prod...

Bob, you got pics of the littles yet?
No, battery in camera was dead in the morning when we checked birds. Bry took some but the little heads always seemed to pop back under mom at snap time. Charged battery,,,try again soon. We counted five last night.

I just lost 2 or 3 posts.

Juise,
Having babbies was not my job. Why do you thing a father does not experience joy at the birth of his children? I do understand that we can't share the pain of childbirth. Thanks be to biology.

Can't remember yhatever else I posted.

Oh, that is why you have joy... you don't have to feel the pain! And that is why a woman has joy at birth, we are no longer in PAIN! LOL

Cuz, I do not care how you put it, babies are just icky when they pop out, and no one will admit it until they are old. LOL,. I admit it right away. It was the grossest thing, and I couldn't WAIT to get them in my arms, yuck and all!

Morning, all!

Bob, I'm quite sure fathers experience joy in the birth of their children! And I also believe that most of them feel their significant others' pain, in an emotional way. Really, I do. When you love someone deeply, it hurts you when they hurt to be sure!

Now get that danged camera charged & get some pics for us!

My FIL tried canning venison burger one year. It came out as a gray tube of meat. Non of us liked it at all. However, canning stew meat is easy and works really well. Plus it really tenderizes it if you happen to have an old deer. We actually bought a second 7.5 cuft freezer one year because DH is so good at getting deer. But now one is stuffed with a side of beef from his dad and the other is filled up with ducks and roosters. I've told DH to please not get a deer as soon as the season opens Oct 1! I've got bunches of more roos heading to freezer camp within a month or so!
We can venison burger and cube up any roast or steak (generally I just grind up into burger). You just put it in as the last ingredient and heat up when cooking. It makes the burger very fine textured.
Yesterday I let my 5 adult guineas out to free range. One of my stupid splash blue andalusion roos decided he was going to make a break for it. I could not get him back inside. Stupid flighty birds. I told him it's his own fault if he gets himself killed. Well sometime yesterday he disappeared. No sign of him other than 1 feather. No idea what got him, but I went on several walks yesterday and at one point I thought I heard raptor calls, though it could have been crows, hard to tell to me but they were coming from another direction. I suspect my fox or one of her young-uns'. I was considering keeping this one, his brother is meaner. I'm really becoming disappointed in this breed. Anyone one want a splash BA or blue andalusian roo? Perhaps a blue hen? Have to warn you, if free ranging them they make a concerted effort NOT to find the door of the pen to go back inside at night!

Love canned venison, so easy too, just cube it up and toss it in the jars. Salmon too, we could hardly wait to open the canner and eat a jar.

Bugs in ears - not so much

Lowes has some plastic panels that work great for run roofing, they are intended to be used under decks but they work fine over a frame and are much less expensive than the Home Depot ones. They come in white, clear and tan I think.

Yeah, I've seen those too, but I'm roofing a shed/coop (divided building for storage and chicken math

) so it really needs to have a proper roof. It looks like the Ondura is on sale at menards this week, AND happens to come standard in the length it appears we need. Looks like you can also install it over purlins for non-residential structures, so we'd save on sheeting as well then. The issue is, however, that we KNOW how to install shingles, and we don't know anything about ondura. And I'm having a horrible time finding the steel roofing panels online to price those out. Ugh.

Have any of you tried a "green" roof (also called a planted roof)? I'd love to increase my garden space, and put plants on the roof of the coop. But, the coop is under a giant maple, and doesn't get enough sun to support the plants I'm interested in.

forgot to mention,   Meijers has canning jars buy 2 get one free, brings the price down considerably any size, through the 24th

also have a homemade launder soap recipe using boraxo,, borax super wash, baking soda, oxyclean, and fels naptha if any one is interested, you only use 1 Tbs. seems to work well but have only used a few times so far....

Ooooohhhh, thanks for the heads up on the jars!!

I've been making laundry soap for years!! It saves a TON of money. I can do laundry for 6 people for roughly $40 a year!! Is your recipe for powder? Mine is liquid, just seems to go through the front loader better :)

I've been busy, busy!! I will post pics of what we have been up to:)

Does anyone. Need a dog coop? We put a door on it and put the ducks in it when they were small. Now they are huge and have out grown it. It is just sitting there, I'd like someone to get some use out of it :)
