Congrats taprock!!!

As for the football game... I'd let him go. He works very hard and deserves some fun time, it may motivate him to work harder at everything else just so he can make time to have fun. I do understand where you're coming from though, I have a high school freshman this year. Every kid needs a balance of social fun and sports and school. Hanging out with friends and showing school spirit is a very improtant part of the high school experience.

Better said than I..

The temptation to use something easy is not always good in the long run. I personally do not like that product. If the project is small you may want to search craigslist for left over shingles from a jobsite. 3 bundles will cover aprox. 100 sqft. Felt is cheap but you may find that also as left over stock. Or, most of the box stores have discontinued, open, or other lots they unload cheap. The Restores (Habitat for Humanity) also have a plethora of used and left over building supplies.
Can you elaborate more as to what happened?

I have more then enough young hens starting to lay and a few old ones that the fox didn't get (probably because they roost 26' up in the rafters of the indoor arena). I wasn't getting as many eggs as I thought I should. I would look here and there, under, over, any place that if I was a chicken would find inviting to lay my eggs.

Then today I hit the jackpot. I found a nest in an old buggy that had 14 white eggs in it. Unless ISA Browns lay white to dark brown eggs, I only have one white Leghorn that could have laid these. Fortunately its been cool here so I think they should be ok.

I've been thinking of setting up a sign at the end of the road to sell eggs to help pay for the feed. I've been getting $3. dz at my church and I know that Walmart free range eggs are $3.44 dz. How much to others sell their eggs for?

did you possibly consider Speckled Sussex? RIRJen has some.

they're on my list......I was hoping for an egg color other than light brown though. I did find hating eggs online (omlette ranch?) and they were $110/dozen!!! Uhhhh......yeah. Mille Fleur Leghorns are NOT coming here at that price, however appropriate it [the price] may be.

I've installed the panels over the wire covering on our old dog run. Overlap is one ridge, about two inches. See picts on my profile page. Store has Specs. and installation instructions.

blrw ???
I'd looked at the instal pdf online and it NEVER said what the overlap was for left to right......just for multiple rows. Anyhow, after the 'it's-not-so-great' warnings I searched for reviews online. Found out that steel panels are also on sale this week, and for $40 more, we can do a steel roof. Decision made.

O.K. I need opinions...........my son wants to go to school all day, go to a 2.5 hour tennis practice after school, eat at a friend's home and then go to a football game all on Friday and then get up and play a tennis tournament for his school early on Saturday a.m. and the tennis lasts all day on Saturday.
Am I wrong in saying that he cannot go to the football game?

Football games are usually over by 9......would he down in bed for the night before then? I say let him go. If he plays like crap he'll have learned a lesson without you having to be the "bad guy."

Why can the baby be happy all day long? Great for the babysitter, and then cry all night long? All. Night. And there's not even a tooth to show for it!

I sell to friends at $3 and $4 to people I don't know.

A gal from school called the other night so excited that she got a double-yolker. It was the first since she started buying from me last year. Her kids were amazed and excited too.

Hey Laura... I sell my eggs $2 a dozen here. I know, not a lot, but, I get wiped out of all my eggs every week, and it pays for that one bag of feed I use every week. It takes like a 8-9 days for me to go through a bag of feed. Nope, no profit for sure, but those 11 girls pull the weight for 36 birds all together. I am not complaining. I'd float the eggs. If they float, chuck em, if they sink to the bottom and lie flat, as if... they are fresher. The ones starting to end up in the water, but not float are older, but still good, so use quickly.

I used the tuftex on the run. I did not use it on the roof of the coops. OK, it is on the roof of the summer coop.... Hmmm. Well anyway, I too went the old fashioned route and shingled. I don't have the money for steal, no way to transport or cut the steal ,uy self, so, shingles for me.

I only charge $2 because my girls have only been laying a few weeks and eggs aren't consistent yet. I had one 26 gram egg and a 70 g double yolker in the same day lol; although most are in the mid 40 range. I also don't free range either because I don't have a fenced yard.

Whereas my guinea leave the chickens alone for the most part. I've had a couple roosters attack the guineas though.
Quote:
Found feather evidence of my missing splash roo. Definitely a land based critter, piles of feathers into the woods just to the west of the coop and right on the opposite side of the field fence with the electric strands top and bottom. So the fence didn't seem to faze it. Smaller piles further out into the swamp, never found the body though. Poor idiot. No one is getting free ranged for now.

On another note I took my 2 dogs for a short 10 minute walk while my french fries were baking, Ziggy dashed into the swamp, then Luna went after him, I hear a yelp and Luna eventually comes out and follows me home. 10 minutes after that I notice she is acting squirrely, so I try to flip her onto her back and find a long gash in the skin of her right rear hip into her belly.

So pull dinner out of the oven while calling the local vet, yell to DH to feed himself and a 20 minute ride later Luna is knocked out and getting stitched up. Now she wears boxer shorts and is confined to quarters for a few days. Stuffing a pill into a chunk of hot dog worked today though it didn't last night. I guess she was hungrier this morning. Last night she spat the pill out 3 times before I got it down her throat.
