Slow day on the thread. I guess everyone is enjoying this fine weather.
I'm re-stacking the woodpile and putting up fence panels as long as my back holds up. There are days when I wish I had a helper.

Just got back from the vet myself. Bad ear infections in one of my dogs, bacteria and yeast so she's getting steroids, cephalexin, and ear drops; all twice a day plus soaking her feet in epsom salt (that should be fun). She hates her ears and paws being messed with so she'll sneak into the bathroom or corner of the bedroom to itch her ears and lick her paws so by the time I notice she's been sneaking away the infection is really bad. Stupid dog doesn't realize it'd be much easier to just tell me when it starts so it doesn't have to get so bad.

Dogs by nature lick their wounds and most of the time, in hiding... Not stupid... just old carry overs from predomestication. But yeah... I agree. Poor girl.

I have more then enough young hens starting to lay and a few old ones that the fox didn't get (probably because they roost 26' up in the rafters of the indoor arena). I wasn't getting as many eggs as I thought I should. I would look here and there, under, over, any place that if I was a chicken would find inviting to lay my eggs.

Then today I hit the jackpot. I found a nest in an old buggy that had 14 white eggs in it. Unless ISA Browns lay white to dark brown eggs, I only have one white Leghorn that could have laid these. Fortunately its been cool here so I think they should be ok.

I've been thinking of setting up a sign at the end of the road to sell eggs to help pay for the feed. I've been getting $3. dz at my church and I know that Walmart free range eggs are $3.44 dz. How much to others sell their eggs for?

I would seriously NOT sell the eggs you found to anyone. You can't know for sure how long they've been there, and...well, I just wouldn't. JMO! I sell mine at work for $2.50/dozen, and I typically run out every week. I have a list of peeps that I go to secondarily, should I have extra.

Hot and muggy. Turned the air back on. Couldn't sleep last night, think it just got to muggy. I don't deal with wamth too well.
Hubby came home yesterday after training in Birch Run and told me about this cool new hybrid camper General RV center had. So he (kiddingly) asked me if I wanted to go see it. I fooled him and said yes. So, this morning went to see it. It's so nice!! A foot shorter than ours now, but the layout is so much better. And the slide out is much bigger. So now I'm working on him to get it!! Boy, is he sorry he ever mentioned that camper!
Raz, I hope you find a helper. Would love a helper to weed my flower garden.

Wish I could get that here. Can't. All around the going rate is $2 a dozen, and I stick with what everyone near by sells for. I just picked up a new egg customer today and they were thinking I said 2.50 a dozen when they called. I should have kept my mouth shut and took the money. LOL. BUT, they said they'd be back next Friday also, so I like that better. I'd rather have a repeat customer come often, and then maybe they will not take it so hard when I do up the price to compensate for the food cost rising... AND they love to see my birds.

What is a safe "age" for an egg? I know that they can be stored on the counter before being used, but how long? And once refrigerated, must stay refrigerated. I guess it really isn't a big concern here since I never have enough eggs in the house, but it would be nice to know...

I want to say its like 3 weeks on a counter and a bit longer in the fridge.. Don't quote me though... LOL

Store bought eggs can be kept for 45 days in the icebox. If memory serves me right.

they're on my list......I was hoping for an egg color other than light brown though. I did find hating eggs online (omlette ranch?) and they were $110/dozen!!! Uhhhh......yeah. Mille Fleur Leghorns are NOT coming here at that price, however appropriate it [the price] may be.

They're not that expensive at Sandhill Preservation.
