Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I believe that he meant for him, personally. Not everyone else.
Whewwww! I am trying to get lots of things done around here so that we can go up for a week. We want to go to Lovells, Sault Ste Marie, back to Detour and drummond and then back home to Lapeer County.

Anyone that is saying they can't afford to go, we will probably have room for others to sleep at the cabin. There is always room for people sleeping on couches, blowup mattresses, etc.

can someone with shipped eggs experience pm me? i have a few questions.

I hatched silkies from eggs that I got from emvickrey this spring. They are sooo cute, but I don't know how to teach them to come back to the coop at night. Every time I let them out I lose a couple that hide before I can catch them to put them back in. My other chicken just go back to roost at night, but these guys just seem to stop and go to sleep where ever they happen to be. I even leave a light on in their coop. Does anyone know how to teach them to go back in at night?

I have been threatened, lied to, bad mouthed, name called, belittled, accused of being an animal collector and abuser one too many times. Now we have had the same thing going on on craigslist. This is just two examples:

Your math sounds right... They are running a scam. I also have been watching these moochers . They are selling over priced rabbits that they probably got for free while they were working for "feed and hay" at some unsuspecting victim's farm. Seems like pan-handling should also be prohibited here. They would never be found casing any of my farms by invitation. There is something to be said for the wife(?) lining up work for herself and husband... Has he got no balls?

WE HAVE NEVER BEEN MOOCHERS!!! OUR RABBITS ARE $10, PETS WE PICKED UP FROM VICKI WHO WAS ONCE A POPULAR MEMBER OF THE MICHIGAN THREAD!! ARIC AND I HAVE BOTH WORKED ON FARMS OUR WHOLE LIVES. HE HAD ME WRITE UP AN AD SO HE COULD FIND A JOB WORKING ON A FARM. HE DOESN'T TYPE VERY WELL AND ALL OF OUR ADS ARE ON MY ACCOUNT ANYWAY. WE HAVE NEVER PAN HANDLED WE WORK FOR OUR MONEY AND WORK HARD AND WHAT WE DONT WORK FOR I GET SSI .....WHICH ALSO REQUIRED WORKING!!!! OUR ****** COOPS COME FROM VERY HARD WORK BY ARIC AND THERE ARE TWO PEOPLE ON BYC TO ATTEST TO THE FACT THEY ARE VERY STURDY AND WELL BUILT!!!

About an ad for a 4x4 coop for $275:
i don't know where you buy you lumber but if you go the menards web site your same list is 37.00 and you spend 66.00 and charging 100.00 an hour labor get a life you crook
WE ARE NOT CROOKS!!!! PRICE OF LUMBER HAS GONE UP!!! FYI ANYTHING ONLINE IS ALWAYS, ALWAYS CHEAPER ANYWAY!!!! ONCE AGAIN, WE ARE NOT CROOKS!!!! WE KNOW WHO YOU ARE. YOU'RE THE ONE WHO NEEDS A LIFE OTHER THAN ATTACKING PEOPLE YOU DONT KNOW IN PERSON EXCEPT ON A STUPID CHICKEN WEBSITE!!!!

Lots of other interesting things today from tomatoes to rain barrels. The rain barrel I can't believe! I wish I had a few here.

This is from my son who wanted everyone to see him and Sweetie.

He was not as nervous this year and did much better. I talked to the judge afterward and she gave some pointers for him to work on for next year. This year he was still in the youngest class but next year he moves up a level. The hawk hocks still make me grin!
hreat pictures Taprock! Your son is adorable!

I was wondering if you all would chime in here.

I am feeling overwhelmed and would just like a small flock of various hens to collect eggs from, no show winners needed.

But the prices on some of these hatcheries after shipping seems like I would need them to lay for 5 good years to break even :)

Just wanting some good advice on how to inexpensively grow my flock, I would like egg colors to be a pretty rainbow for lack of a better term.

You could try going to the Chicken Stock North on Sept 22 in Lovells, Michigan. People will probably be bringing a variety of things to choose from- birds, chicks, and eggs. Let it be known what you are looking for specifically and you will have a better chance. Where are you located? If it is in the southern area of the state, there seem to be a lot of people down there. And there are a lot of really good folks on here. Someone might be willing to help you out.
Here's a link for the Chicken Stock event

My silkies are about 3+ months old now. They come to the coop and perch at the top of the ramp directly under the pop door. There have only been two nights they actually went in on their own. Every other night I have to pick them up and put them in the rest of the way. Even once in, I still need to put them in a corner on the floor, or they will sleep in a puppy pile at the top of the ramp pushed up against the closed pop door. Reminds me of the 2 yr old that doesn't want to go to bed who says he's not sleepy...

They are adorable little fuzzy butts, but not the smartest of the flock. My year old silkie hen does go straight to her nest on her own though, so maybe there's hope.

I just read an article on line about "Better Rainwater-Harvesting System" It is in Mother Earth News, August 18, 2012. Sounds good to me, especially since rain water off the roof soaks our deck. I've been thinking of having gutters installed anyway. Check it out. This system can not be against the law.??
we read that same article. I think we are going to install it for our garden!

Sitting here this morning, listening to the roosters crowing, and watching the grass grow. While I can't actually see it growing it is growing at a tremendous rate. If I don't mow today I may have to see about having it baled.

The tomatoes are starting to ripen and by the end of the week I should be in full swing canning mode. With the size and quantity of roma tomatoes I have this year I should be able to put up quite a few quarts of sauce. I sure get myself into a lot of projects. Especially since I like eating well.

Morning everyone. Keyt- I wanted that larger coop you had for sale soooo bad but couldn't figure out how to get it to me.
My silkies are also about 4 months old, at least they are easy to catch, if I can find them. Its scary how passive they are though.
