I didn't get very far reading at the GAAMP site before I came up with a question/problem. According to the table 1, poultry are either layers or broilers.. So by their definition my rooster and/ or any chicken that I'm not going to eat or isn't laying eggs doesn't count? So Raz you wouldn't be in trouble if you had a couple of peacocks. or any of the "ornamental" chickens?
I'm sorry to be trying to add duties on to you, but you are attending the meetings and know what's going on. Could you possibly make up a petition? I'm sure we could get a substantial number of signatures.

I am so sorry! Did the hatchery give you any ideas as to why?

No no reasons, but I got 25 isa's and they are the only ones dying, so I am inclined to think maybe they sat near a draft, or I got some really weak birds and they couldn't take the trip?

But I don't think I am doing anything wrong. I have read up on it and discussed it hear and had things here that they needed. The remaining ones sure are making my garage stinky

I was going to have a friend take 20 of them, but at this point, I am afraid how many more we will lose

I know you have a lot of chicks. Is there enough areas in the brooder that are at 95 degrees?
It is going to be cold tonight and it might be hard to keep the temperature up. They do need a place to move away from the heat but you also need to keep about 40 chicks at about 95 degrees so there might need to be a couple heat lamps in a couple different areas.
And then an area that is not as hot so they can move out of the heat also.

Also, there will have to be plenty of fresh food and water in a couple different places or the weak ones won't get food and water.

Now I have a new issue... a bigger, sadder issue.
I have had a hawk victim.
She was scalped under her top knot feathers. She is still alive. I am sure she is in shock.
Some would put her down, but I would like to give her a chance.
She is sitting up right and holding her head up. I take all those as good signs.
I smothered the wound in triple antibiotic ointment. And she has her own special, quiet place to stay with food and water.
WHAT ELSE SHOULD I DO??

If she has her skin split open you can use super glue to tack it back together.
My cleo had a gash about 6 inches long. it toke about a week before she started drinking and eating on her own. i used aspirin in the water but you need to be careful if she is bleeding cause aspirin can thin the blood.

BackyardFarmMom, Some times it is amazing the wounds that chickens can recover from. This first and foremost step in treatment is to remove the bird to a quiet, warm location where there is no contact with other birds. They will gang up and kill the weak bird. After applying an antibiotic salve and would suggest giving them Poultry Drench. It definitely will help since the bird has been highly stressed. Given the fact that the bird was still sitting up and alert some time after the attack I would try to save it myself. Good Luck!

I know someone mentioned 'Save a chick' as a liquid to help hydration!
I have never used it but I think you get it at the feed store.

Well I had a bushel of tomatoes and decided to try your sauce technique opa. It turns out I can still burn it, only on the top not the bottom, which is much easier to scoop off. All cooked down today and tomorrow I will add the rest of the ingredients and try freezing it.

My son decided to help out, first he vacuumed and tripped over a crate of jars and broke one, then he washed the windows.... With "the works". he did help me clean the basement which ment hauling loads of stuff all over on the 4-wheeler and then did cleaning in his room and outside. Hubby was given some huge shelves and work bench that had to go in the basement today. The one looks like a fabric cutting counter with a shelf under it and is at least 15 foot long.

Most of my 5month old birds will not go in the big coop with the older chickens even though I tried moving them several times. The only ones who have moved on their own are my son's bantam Cochin and OEG who are the smallest girls of the bunch. They seem totally at home with the older chickens.

I just wanted to pop in and say hi! I've been super busy here! I'm now coaching JV cheerleading at one of the local high schools, we just had our first homeschool co-op and I am trying to finish up lesson planning so we can start our formal lessons on Monday, we had house guests last weekend, the duck house is FINALLY almost done, we've been doing a few other projects around the house, my 4 year old starts back to dance on Monday so we had sign-ups for that as well as soccer, and I've done a bit of canning...so as I said...SUPER BUSY! I was trying to catch up reading, but I've given up, so if I missed anything important, I apologize! I hope all is well with everyone! I'll try to pop in again soon!

You just described my neighb...former friend.

I guess I'm feeling squirrely or something. I was at a meeting with some newly graduated Master Gardeners. I brought eggs to sell and quite a few people were surprised at the different sizes and colours.

After a bit of conversation about the sizes, colours, freshness and what not, a lady approached me and asked what was so special about my eggs. Before I could answer, her friend (with a smirk) told her that if she planted my eggs, she would get egg plants.

And I thought that I was a smart aleck!

Anyway, after convincing her (I hope) that eggs don't grow into eggplants, I gave her a dozen and asked her to compare them to her store bought white eggs. Oh, she mentioned that she had heard that brown eggs were spoiled. Where do people come up with these ideas?

I don't know whether to laugh or cry...


Master gardeners should have known better, seems to me. Perhaps a joke? I do both, but tend to cry more.

.Rain last night was appreciated,but I wish I had paid closer attention to the forecast. Then I would have placed all the stuff taken from my boat so I coud vacuum it easier, under cover. Now I have drying to do in addition to replacing a bunch of very important stuff. I say importent because it is used so much. Why, jist last April I had the boat out and even tried to fish some. It did collect a lot of detritus though. Anybody want some Maple seeds? Hoping your lives are going well.

My DS is 6'1" and 16 years old. He worked 40 hours a week all through the summer at a regular job at a shop around the corner. He paid for everything himself. I highly doubt he will be training 'Max' and friend to walk on a lead line. Just not very practical out in the wilds where we live.
