Well I forget how old they are, I bought them a few weeks ago and I was under the impression that they were all laying, but maybe that isn't the case and the one is just starting to lay?

Did you see the comment about buying layer crumble for feed? I like to get them out in the sun on grass and bugs as much as possible. A lot of us buy oyster shell calcium and give the chickens a bowl of it near their water. I get mine at Chowhound pet store because I only needed a small amount. How are your chicks?

I don't remember exactly how old he was but I do remember having to take diapers with us just in case he had an accident. A scary thought, I wonder how many years it will be before we again have to take diapers with us in case I have an accident. Life really does travel in a circle.

I hear ya on everything you said about HD! It just seems that the men folk in my family go there for one thing and come home with a new toy...

Is there something I could feed them to help with that problem? I was thinking I had read that means they are low in calcium and if that is right crushed up egg shells in yogurt can give them a big dose of calcium am I right?

. A raccoon youngster did a day time attack on my yard. Tore the feathers and a tail completely off of one pullet, the feathers off another hen, and Mr. Fluffers came to the rescue, kicked the coons butt, saved the ladies. He ended up with a sprained wing, and other unseen injuries, lived for 8 days, even with antibiotics and special care. He was bleeding internally... I hope that I have another guy just like him. He was wonderful. First rooster I have ever had.

I found an egg this morning, and my daughter found one this afternoon. It looks like our whole flock (all 2 hens) are laying now.

We had scrambled eggs this morning, with 4 petite eggs. They were very small servings, but so delicious. Our run is done, and we have a nesting box now. We're getting close to done (well... closer).

I try to avoid the big box stores. We're pretty lucky to have a local hardware store close by.

Up already, but need to be for work again today. Won't be as long as yesterday. Had 10 1/2 hours on the clock yesterday. Only 5 today, which gives me a chance to clean up the pasture for the horses before it rains and the chicken run too. Seems as if the feather molt is finally slowing down somewhat. Not so many this week, and more from the silkies than the big guys.

Yay!!!! 2 eggs that is so exciting, I love to see how happy my son is to find the eggs, almost as happy as I am when I find them
