Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Fancy, yes, I am still going to be wanting girls. I can not get any more from Randy, he's only got a few, and I am just going to ASSUME they are related birds. The two lovely girls I have now, I am going to pen with these two. One to each, and a few of the other girls who are fav crosses... They are sister...

SO, breeding question, can I breed cousins? Or Uncle to neice?

Thanks for saying my boys are nice looking. I love them. And they are so timid! They will tolerate me picking them up as they come out of the coop, but not in the yard during the day. They've not gotten to where they will eat out of my hand, but they do come when called. So, for me that is good. I don't want lap roosters anyway. Lap hens, sure, but not lap roosters.

Nova, so you also have hens...I would love to get eggs from you too someday! Your roos are very handsome. I don't have an SF roo but I wish I did, I hear they have wonderful temperament, and they are so nice looking. My little faverolles pullet is adorable. I will definitely want more.

My first one was. He was a great defender. Took on a juvie coon to keep the girls safe... As soon as the boys start being manly, I will start penning them away from the other so I will get pure eggs after 2 weeks. Well, It will more than likely be the spring since laying season is coming to an end. My one girl though, she does not meet SOP, she's muddy. has black in her beard and on her tips and neck ring. She's a good layer though. SO, barring any fatalities from predators...

I dont see why you couldn't breed them I am by all means no professional YET !!! But I would definately be interested in doing some swaps of purebred chicks from you when you get some I have about 15 hens and 2 roos so they should get me started pretty good just trying to figure when would be a good time to start hatching I have a incubator and a brooder so i guess if my hens continue to lay I might just get an early start, We will have to stay in touch on our breeding programs Thanks.....
I wouldn't mind just eggs. I have too darn many hens that love to go broody on me. TOO MANY! I just broke Beulah, Sheh Sheh (White faverolle) and now the bad mom Coco Chanel is broody again. I think Hawkarella is too. I took her out of the nest box tonight and set her on the roost.

Looks like my other SLW is going to have to be culled. She's got a very squishy abdomen, standing with her legs a little farther apart, belly hanging low...Remember my beautiful Veena? Same thing... Internal laying... I just lost my other SLW to the same darn thing. Only I didn't know what her problem was until I cut her open post mortem. SpeckledHen (ex-mod) has said several times how she's lost nearly every SLW from the hatchery to repro issues. Reading some past posts, seems to be quite a few people who do lose them to it when they are from hatcheries. How is this possible? I will just have to get them from a breeder again. The girls had just started laying too.. The GLW seems to be healthy and laying just fine.

RaZ, I sure hope your girls do not develop this issue. My neighbors are laying just fine, he has one of each...

Didn't you get some SLW's this spring? Thats what I am talking about. That the ones I got from townline both have internal laying issues, and now looks like I am about to lose the last one from it. I was just saying I hope your girls don't develop this issue.
