Well call me CRAZY but i just put 25 eggs in the bator good thing i got a brooder to keep these babies good in this lovely Michigan weather figured i would get an early start on next springs flock

Nutella caramel apple

Cut a wedge out of the side of an apple. Reach inside with a melon baller and remove the core. Fill the cavity with nutella and replace the wedge. Dip Apple in melted caramel. when cooled drizzle with chocolate, then sprinkle with chopped nuts. Mmmmm.

So I'm sitting on the couch enjoying my lunch when I see a large dog excitedly jumping in and around our ditch in front of the house. I panicked and ran outside just in time to see it take off for the backyard and my chickens, that have been foraging out of the pasture lately. I screamed at it, bloody he**, I screamed at it but of course it didn't listen, making a bee-line for my birds. Luckily they flew over the fence to safety just in time and THEN I see the owner, casually walking down the road with her little kids in a wagon. She yelled at it too but not nearly as full of hatred as I did. I'm livid! KEEP YOUR D*** DOG ON YOUR PROPERTY OR A LEASH!!!! There's no excuse for that. Funny you guys were just discussing free ranging. I'd hate to put my chickens in. Their run is a wasteland.

Just had a hawk attack. It swooped down and tried to take a call duck. The duck is fine and the hawk was chased away. Good thing our livestock dog was out watching over her birds. Funny thing is she is a maltese/cairn terrier whose name is Zeva.

I'm glad that dog didn't get any of your chickens. Are you allowed to shoot dogs with a pelt gun if they get on your property? I love animals, but all rules are off the table when it comes to defending what is mine.

I don't know. It's tough though because we're on a farm surrounded by subdivision on three sides.

No. If you shoot, you shoot to kill. Shooting an animal with a pellet gun or a paintball is seen as animal cruelty, and can land you in huge trouble. Killing a dog who is threatening or in the process of harming your livestock is allowed basically everywhere. Just be sure to check your own local laws regarding discharging a firearm.

I personally wouldn't shoot a dog unless it was behaving aggressively towards ME. Especially if I know the dog (for instance, I knew Brown Dog was a very good boy), I'd rather round the dog up. If any fowl are injured or killed, the owner WILL be paying me their value.

Here is a link to make your own water heater. I used these last year in all of my coops and they work great. I plugged them into a thermo cube so they would not stay on all the time, only when the temps got to freezing.

I will use a cootie tin style heater for my water when it get's really cold here.
