Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Nice looking barn, Bob.

Sure did get cold in a hurry. Had to lay in a fire just to warm up and chase the damp out.

Crisis was averted today. Chicken food ran out on Friday and I was getting worried. I'm all stocked up again, for now. And over the weekend, I joined the crazies who make warm oatmeal for their chooks. But in my defense, the box of quick oats have moths in it so I wasn't going to eat it. I think I bought that oatmeal last December to make cookies. Chickens seemed to like it, bugs and all.

Hi everyone, have any of you had much luck at the Marlette auction? I am thinking of going Monday to see what they have.

I haven't been to this one in about 6 years. I am thinking that maybe this one they sell them separate at booths...I hope... I don't want to have to bid to get a bird. I hear that they go for about $5 ea

Very pretty, hope some one got her that isn't going to eat or feed to snake

Here are three shots showing the roof we installed on the barn ( as we call it ) . The stepladder in the left view is 5 ft tall. Lean to on other end is for gardening and storage of yard equipment and tools etc. Put 4 x 8 ft. clear polycarbonate over part of that. Can't separate picts yet. Maybe someday. Apple tree is Northern spy. Cut it back and so far have not been able to keep the suckers off Tree on north side of lean to is dogwood. Pretty in spring.
I like this, Bob!
I'm sure your chicken pair will be fine in the cage for the winter. I have a brooder in the garage and had the bantams in there over a bad winter. Even has a pop door and I put fencing around and shavings for their own lil run. They seemed very happy.
x 2! I'm sure they will be very comfy and content in their own place. They are not very big!

What a cold night! Came home from work at 10:30 to see that the chick coop was down to 30deg, so I found another light and stuck it out there for them. Their waterer was frozen, but after I put the light in, it had warmed up to almost 42 by 1130. I'm going to pull the extra light out after I get the boy on the bus and check to see if their waterer is useable now. Need to figure out how to keep a little more heat in there I think. Even the big girls didn't come out much yesterday.

I'm a little sad that it snowed last night. I was really hoping it would hold off until Wednesday night so the deer would be easier to see on Thursday morning. I'm really excited to get to do a little bit of hunting this year! The only down-side is that I have to stay at my parents' house for 2 or 3 nights since my mother is watching the baby for me, and I'll have to be on the road no later than 430 each morning. Baby doesn't sleep well a night still. I might see if my mother has one of those little battery-operated travel alarm clocks and take it with me, set to go off every 30min or so to be sure I don't fall asleep.

We have some good bucks for the area we hunt on camera this year, and putting meat in the freezer will really help the grocery bill this winter. I have a doe tag too, and there's a doe without fawns (either ran them off already, or they didn't make it) that's pretty big that would also do nicely.
