Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I just got back from the other side of the state. Took a 5 hour trip today and picked up a pair of lavender Orps and a Coronation Sussex hen. Here's a picture of the Coro hen and the lavender roo.
He is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

According to that line of thinking I am over the hill, however, I'd rather be over the hill than under it.

Please be safe out there!
I like to think most hunters respect the rule about only shooting dear on there own property, HOW EVER there are exceptions always.,,,,, My DH won't even track onto someone else's property with out asking first. I know people that live in rural areas that hate hunting season because they have holes shot into their houses every yr. There are always those that don't THINK!! before they shoot, Which is why if I hear a shot close to our house If I don't see DH with in a 1/2 hr or less I go check to make sure some idiot hasn't shot him.
Snowflake, I believe it was the BR roo that was killing them because when he give him away they stopped dying.

I love how the big combs and wattles look on the roos, but how do you keep them from getting frostbite in the winter time? I've heard of Vaseline as a preventative, but does it really work?

Vaseline on the like, keep moisture from the flesh so that helps avoid frostbite.

Keep your birds dry and provide shelter that blocks wind and rain. Have your coop ventilated so that moisture does not build up within. Good air exchange is very important. Avoid drafts.

Keep the waterer positioned to reduce the chance that your birds can get their wattles, combs or any exposed flesh from getting wet. It doesn't have to be freezing for frostbite to occur. Wet and 40 degrees can cause it. (That's how I got it on 8 fingers.)

wow. I hope it wasn't much of your fingers. Does Garden City allow chickens? I know that Lincoln Park does not, which is why we are waiting til we buy our own place. (not to mention our postage stamp backyard isn't fit for a dog, much less a flock)

Garden City currently does not allow any animals other than dog, cat and canary. That is why I have been hauled into court, along with several other citizens.

Someone asked about the meeting on Friday that we had with MDARD people. I'm working on that response and will post later.

The weather is both wonderful and horrible. While it is nice not having to deal with frozen waterers this "heat" is also keeping the deer from moving.

Granny & Hope are watching the American Music Awards show and one singer called Usher was performing. All about his singing is he sure ain't no George Strait.
