All I can tell you is a coon got into my coop and got 13 of my hens. He didnt eat a one but tore the throats out of all of them. And the reason I know its a coon, as it left crapped in the nest box. Ive rescued coons before and know what their poop looks like. So mine was for sure, a coon.

This one climbed up the side of the outside fencing and into my hen house through the eves. Then tried to dig his way back out via the hen house door. That didnt work so he must have went back out the same way.

Some say wessels do this to their prey. I dont know, have not had it happen and I sure hope it doesnt.

I am so very sorry for your loss KKL. Try to set a live trap just in case is comes back.

EDIT: gosh if I would check my spelling before I hit submit, I might not have to edit so much lol

Thank you for the replies on my predator problem. We have spent the day checking everything on our coop, it is like Fort Knox now, I hope. I am still not ready to use it again yet. It appears something snuck in between the door. There was a small gap there. I could not find anywhere else something may have gotten in at. Most of the chickens were intact, a couple were missing heads. One was taken out completely, a smaller one. We combed the area outside of their fenced in area really well today looking for any animals or dens and found nothing. We plan to be out tonight waiting in the shadows. Thanks for any information.

I did score some, Caleb, lol. In Frankenmuth! So, nowhere is too far to drive for PF! LOL. I do not do a lot of frying, but when I make pie and any kind of holiday baking that calls for crisco (eww) I substitute lard. So anytime you hear of hog fat being availble to buy, let me or Miss Jayne know! We take our lard serious! haha

Where are you in SW MI? I live in Bloomingdale, could have been Jacks processing. He is in Bloomingdale and that is where we have our hog processed. He is a real good guy. I was just so surprised to see Bloomingdale in a post that is not mine. lol.

Feel sorry for the loss of your hens "KKL" and "michiganlarry".

Regarding my chicken fight, two council members suggested me to see the city attorney and explain her how I am going to house my hens and discuss. But the attorney was ignoring to accept or return my calls.
When I did get the opportunity to talk to her on phone, I think she was having a bad day;therefore refused to see me and told me that her answer is still "NO" and my chickens were smelly and 10 hens are too many. These two objections are new objections from her previous ones.I already addressed her previous concerns very nicely in my previous letter to city council.
Council members didnt promise me that she will say yes. They suggeted me to talk to her and discuss with her ,but she doesnt want to talk or give me any appointment. She is just trying to find objections to say no.So I have left the message with the council office and expecting to talk to them soon.Lets see what happens next.I have also written another followup applications to documnet whats going on and mailed it yesterday to city council.
Do advice me if you can think of something for my current situation.
I was feeling that just like for a dog or cat license city cannot say no to the owner ,how can they say no to the permit application when ordinance does give chance to apply for permit.
No matter what ever is the outcome,I will not give up so easily.Wish me best.
