Just let me know when you guys pick. It seems there will always be stuff going on, because summer is such a busy time. Our 4-H fair week is the July 11-18, so those 2 saturdays are out for me, but that is going happen, you can't please everyone. So just pick a date, a place and time, and go for it!! I will try to be there!!

No horse pictures here although I spent a lot of time (years) on a horse working our brood cow herd. We had quarter horses and they knew how to work cattle.

July/August would probably be better for me as well.

Since I have no horse pics....I will submit my dog and hogs for your viewing pleasure.

If you can all put the town you live in, I can map it out & find a central location. That would proably be the fairest, and would bring more folks, too!

Thank You!

Those are my breeding stock, not to eat.

Their offspring is what I raise to sell/butcher

A hog will stay clean as long as you provide a clean environment. I don't let poo build up. And, because I keep it clean there is very little odor.

I like clean and organized.

Interesting! I grew up in Iowa...land of lots of pigs...most folks I knew who had them bred them in large quantities, and they were filthy and stinky. The only ones that had pretty/clean ones like yours were the ones exhibiting them. I've always liked them; neat lookin' critters if you ask me!

Steve, you're right about keeping hogs clean. A good friend of mine once raised to hogs in his garage in Westland. His neighbors never knew he had them until the day I went to haul them off for slaughter. They were shocked to find out that they had been there for 5 or 6 months without them knowing it. They wouldn't have known then if they hadn't squealed so loud when we loaded them. Well, that a funny story that I'll have to tell you about when we meet.

I know what you are saying.

We fed out 1200 head annually, obviously we didn't have the time to keep things as clean as I can with just these two. Things did smell, but they weren't in filth. Sloped concrete floors diverting manure into a HUGE underground manure tank helped except for the 3-4 times a year we had to pump that tank.....I can't say it was a sweet smellin place on those days.

Nice thing about just being a hobby farmer now is, I have the time for each individual animal now.....and they love the attention, you grab a brush and Ole Barney stands right next to the gate waiting to be brushed. They both love it. Little pigs are fun too, I've always liked hogs.
