I just checked on the jerky and it has a ways to go. It's mesquite flavored with just enough cayenne pepper to leave a little heat when you're done chewing it. Tomorrow I will vacuum seal it and get it in the mail. Morgan is sure going to be a happy camper. Surprizingly the girls gave me 11 eggs today but the means 12 aren't pulling their weight. My bantam flocks seems to have given up completely. I talked with my oldest son and the 5 bantam hens that I took south for his mother have given her a total of 5 eggs. Those poor birds had better start layhing soon, they have no idea of just how mean that woman can be.

One of my EE's stopped laying for the winter, the others have been laying almost everyday. Not bad considering we really haven't been supplementing any light. One of Doug's friends at work gave us a small utility heater which we have on low in there. They seem to be happy.

I'll try as soon as she can pry the frozen thing off the ground. If she turns too fast she almost tips over. Cracks me up every morning.

Hi everyone! I have been gone forever- not really, just not here on the boards. Life got in the way- but I think I have a handle on it again. Still have my chickens. Hope everyone is doing okay, and that at least some of you remember me. Happy New Year!

Glad to see you back M2em. Compared to yesterday it looks as if it's going to be downright balmy today. Need to spend a while today cleaning the coop. I've got to get started building my new brooders. It will be spring before we know it. (I wonder if I convince myself) I need to empty the hunting equipment for the back of my truck, get everything cleaned and put into my outdoor pursuits equipment storage room. When I built the family room on the house I have a basement under it. It's accessed from outside via a 6' wide roll up door. I partitioned off a room in which I store only hunting and fishing equipment. It sure makes it nice to have everything in one place.

Good mornin', everybodies!

I had read the Farmer's Almanac, and it said that our Winter would be bitter cold, but with very little snow. Guess that thing isn't always completely accurate, huh? Of course, maybe this isn't very much snow for around here. Seems like a heck of alot to this ole' girl from Texas, though.

Hubby's back to work today, and my little guy is back to school. Kids are all gone. Guess I'll be occupying my time taking care of the critters today. We've got a processing date scheduled for our first yak bull and two lamb rams next week. If anyone knows of a good source for tanning (hair on), please let me know. We plan to tan the hide and clean the skull to put them up for sale.

We went to visit our friend yesterday in the hospital. We got there in time to watch some of his therapy. It's fascinating to see how the therapists work with various muscles to re-teach the brain how to communicate. He's doing very well, and has pretty much all control back except for his left arm. He's got a long road ahead of him, but he's off to a good start.

Well, I'm off to start my day. Hope everyone has a good one!

Happy New Year Everyone

YakLady,

I am glad your friend is doing better. My youngest daughter had a stroke 2 1/2 years ago so we went through all that and she still goes to therapy. She is doing amazing and we thank God every day for our precious gift! It is a long hard road, but oh so worth it!!

Laura, so sorry to hear about your silkies and ducks! We have done the same thing, it is so frustrating. I never heard back from that guy about the ducks, so if you are still interested, give me a shout.

Mom 2em All, glad you are back with us!

Sam, glad you are thinking spring. I am having a hard time wrapping my head around it. It is just soooo cold!!
