I hope Spring comes soon. The eggs are my way of protesting Winter. I am sick of it, and I am forcing Spring. Next, I think I will force some spring bulbs in the house to bloom.
Today, it was rather nice this morning, and I refused to watch the snow fall this afternoon. I am in DENIAL.

black giant eggs and silkie eggs.

I do. Mine are-my girls havent really stopped laying but they are spoiled chickens with a red lamp and a radiator heater in their coop.
I have eggs in the incubator as of yesterday. There should be eight eggs coming today to add to them, and then the wait is on. I am excited now, but will be complaining about chickens in the house in three weeks.

Not quite then, but that stage where they are too big to be inside, and too small to be outside because winter wont quit lingering...

silkies, Black Giants, and dark cornish bantams. I ordered the dark cornish bantams because my evil standard size dark cornish was pretending to be broody for two days and I thought it would be cool to let her hatch out "mini-me's" but she was just foolin'- she isnt broody, she just was hogging the favorite nest. I collected eggs off the FROZEN ground outside and could not understand why the girls would lay out there in the yard...til' I saw Ms Witch sittin in the nest box. When you have to go, you have to go...lol, same applies to layin an egg I guess.

Good morning everyone! Today is fake Spring day #2 in my mind. I am not noticing the new snow on the ground out there, I am going to change my screen saver on my computer to a picture of daffodils or something also. No more snow scenes. I have to go gather the eggs for my crabby husbands breakfast and I am not going to notice how darn cold my hands will be either.

Welcome. That makes you in Monroe Co? We are in northern Monroe Co.

The spring people have a great idea. I got a broody Buff Orp that is sitting on her fake egg. But this is my first broody that actually goes back to the same nest every time. I wish it was late Febuary I would put some eggs under her.

Hi Everyone!!!

A friend of mine has 4 incubators they are not using. I started asking in Nov. if I could borrow them and she said yes no problem lol. Now its end of January and I had to the unthinkabe. I'm having my hubby call and e-mail her hubby everyday they don't bring me the incubators LOL! I want to start hatching eggs!!!!

Sweet Chicks, the hatching bug can be pretty severe at times. I have my roosters segregated right now so I don't have fertile eggs or I'd probably be firing up the incubators. You should be sure to attend Chickenstock. That way you can meet a bunch of equally afflicted people.

How well does that work? My son has been wanting to bring his overly tame serama in but I have no idea what to put her in.

My BIL had a house chicken last year. They kept it in the bathroom. It's a very strange feeling using the bathroom when there is a rooster looking at you

I'm gonna set eggs from my Cochins, Silkies, Delawares, Chantecler, and Rosecomb RIRs....about 3 dozen eggs that I've collected this past week.
