Very nice looking, nice and green. good luck with your breeding

Hi Everyone
just wanted to pop in and say HI, been really busy lately
hopefully spring will be here soon, it was so nice on Sunday when it was 45, now were back down in th 20's and 30's, i have some baby ducks and chicks that i would like to get out of my laundry room and get the in the garage but it still to cold.

take care hope everyone is doing good.

1) Thanks LauraSBale for the kind words! I am so excited to be working with the BEI's!

2) I have not been getting any eggs - knock on wood. The birds are not on any artificial lighting yet and I don't use any heat in the winter. Late next month I will add some laying feed and light. Eggs will come in due time. I am in no hurry for winter hatches, delay it as long as possible. To try and keep any snow and wind off the birds I put clear 6 MIL plastic on their outside runs. The wind is just whippin out there! That winter thaw did not last long. Had to pull the ducks wading pool (they won't be happy) and plug back in the heated water dishes.

so, ,in my mind,,i continue my Spring mode..lol. My kids think I am insane. The snow was blowing yesterday and i said to my daughter- Look dandelion fluffs...lol.
My incubator temp reads 98.6. I don't dare touch it because in a few hours it will be 100.0 on its own. Nice fluctuations.

Now I remember how it drives me crazy to hatch eggs.

I am awake because I woke up with a terrible terrible headache. I am slamming a cup of coffee, nuked and left over from yesterday in hopes that the caffeine will help dull it. Feels like I was hit in the face with a hammer. My alarm goes off in an hour. Its going to be a long day.

Hope it goes well for you.

I woke with a terrible headach a couple of days ago. Hubby gave me some migraine meds and it went away quickly.
Gosh, it's cold out there. Gonna take the grand kids to Impression 5 Museum today. Sure can't do anything outdoors. Gotta run and get to Lansing. See you tonite! Have a good day all.

Hello friends,

I feel like I haven't been on here in forever. Darn lambing season. Grrrrrrrrrr. It would help if I knew when they got knocked up. They were Spring lambs when I bought them in October, and none of us knew that the prior owner's ram had done the deed. Bella wasn't able to have hers without help and it didn't make it. She was just too young. But Bella's alright, thank goodness. Gordita is in the lambing pen now. She's bigger and stronger, so I think she'll do alright. She's already leaking milk, and I think she's dropped so it could be any time now. Betty went into heat after I bought her, I think, and I'm pretty sure my ram got her. If so, she's got about another month.

Sooooo.... I've been alternating between running out to the lambing pen, panicked that I missed something, and coming back in here to try to sleep. I've been a nervous wreck.

My sweet little Redbeard (very tame Amerecauna-follows me everywhere) laid her first egg yesterday. It was so cute! She was following me all over the place, and all of the sudden she started acting kind of panick-y. She was hopping into nooks and crannies, and scratching. It finally hit me, so I picked her up and plopped her in a nest box back in the coop. She wasn't in there for two minutes before I heard the egg song. Went back a few minutes later, and there was a little green egg. Too cute!

I went to the IYAK convention at the National Western Stock Show in Denver this past weekend. It was very cool. I saw types of yaks that I didn't even know existed. I'll try to post a couple of pictures. The Grand Champion was an adult cow.....BEAUTIFUL!!! She's what they call a 'Super Hairy' Grey-Nose Black. Apparently, this particular farm breeds all of his to have an over-abundant supply of long outer layer hair. Then there was an absolutely adorable 'Super Wooly'. They are bred to grow a lot of wooly underlayer for fiber.

Here's Blockbuster, the Grand Champion.

Here's a yearling super hairy, owned byt he same guy who owns Blockbuster. I fell in love with this one...her name is Cub Cadet.

This is a Super Wooly. Her daddy's name is Chewbacca. Isn't she a doll?

This is the first of her kind-a light golden Royal. Her name is Caramel Cappacino.

Cold is an understatement. I was out working in the chicken coop and that wasn't too bad. Then I went into the run to fill the waterer and found out just how cold it actually is. Too bad it isn't as nice as it looks. Oh well we've only got 2 more months of this to endure, then a month of wet and muddy. Earlier I had some of M2EM's dandelions floating around and as hard as I tried to convince myself they still looked like snowflakes.

I am freezing!!! Thank goodness the sun is shinning. Really Opa just Febuary to go for me. I think I am gonna start some veggies and flowers in the house again this year. Makes March much easier knowing it is a growing season too. Then if I let one of these broodies hatch something starting in Febuary then there will be peeping in March too. Yep this year March is gonna start spring even if it is in the house.

When I was younger 23 degrees and sunny was ideal weather for a lot of winter activities. For some reason once I got into my 60s my blood got thinner and the cold seems to creep into my bones. A vascular problems I have developed reacts adversely to the cold and the capillaries contract shutting off blood flow to my fingers. It becomes quite painful and frost bite becomes a serious concern. A nice little present life gives you if you live long enough.

530am Just came in from opening the nests and if last weeks mild weather had lulled anyone into thinking winter might have been on the way out are in for a real surprise. Blowing snow, frigid temps, winter is certainly still here.

Good Morning
Opa, I am trying to keep up my Spring Farce and I think that is why it is so darn bitter out there. Painful cold wind. yuck yuck yuck. I bet my girls will protest by not laying an egg at all today.

I have an extremely busy day today- dr appts for my kid, work meeting, housework, blahblahblah...

everyone stay warm and have a good day.

Help! I've got 2, maybe 3, hens that are possibly eggbound - yucky, poopy butts, hunched over, not looking happy! Ive read quite a bit about giving them warm water baths and massaging them 2 - 3 times a day, giving them more oysters shells. Right now, I'm working 12 hour days for the next several days. I can't stick a lot of time into these hens at the moment. Unfortunately, I'm not really attached to them. DH said it would be easier to axe them. What to do?
