Bluemoon- I'm so excited for these eggs to hatch, this is my first test run with my own eggs and I'm really hoping to get an olive egger out of the bunch. Does your olive egger lay well? I'm hoping that she will lay better than her mama, I have 3 EE but only get about 6-9 blue/green eggs a week.

The ones I just hatched aren't laying yet. I can't wait to see what I get.

It looks like I have mostly girls so far. Good luck with your hatch

Can't wait to see pictures!

My olive egger is a rooster named Houdini. He was being a butthead until recently. I threatened him with my lobster pot, since he's too big for my crockpot.

My chickens free range during the day, he's good for free ranging since he's HUGE, and very alert, and protective. He had to be put in his place a couple weeks ago, and has been good since. He gives me a wide girth now. He won't even look at me.

Our other free range rooster is Stevie, he's a BCM. He's not as alert as Houdini, but is pretty good at sounding the alarm when he's paying attention. He's more interested in showing all the ladies where the treats are. He's also pretty big, but not as big as Houdini.

So hopefully I'll have an olive egger or two from their offspring.

Opa, little Currie is still sitting on her duck egg. LOL! She looks too cute! It's so funny to watch her get all puffed up and screech at me when I lift up the lid to the nest boxes. She's so tiny that the duck egg is half exposed. I don't see how it could possibly hatch, but it will be interesting to see what happens. I'll candle it in a few days.

Good morning all!
Today is my birthday and I have jury duty. Not a very fair gift from the government. I am planning on stopping in at the casino though- may as well, maybe not..in all reality it depends on how close it is. I have no idea where I am going. Downtown Detroit is all i know. Hopefully I won't be in jury duty all day.

You all have a great day. My single Beeper, the lone Polish chick is doing fabulous. That three sided mirror is a wonderful surrogate siblings replacement. The little Beeper is very social, not excessively loud- and everyone here adores it. You know what that means, right? It will be a rooster. Cant have roosters. It looks like it has a yellow mo-hawk...heh, very cute.

Time to feed all the critters then get ready to leave. Maybe they wont choose me to be on the jury- I have a cold.

I was called TWICE in the span of two months a couple years ago.

The first time was for the town we lived in at the time, the second was for the county we lived in at the time. Well, I called Detroit, and told them I had already done jury duty, and they said it didn't matter. I had to go anyway. So, I go to Detroit, get to the courthouse. They sign us all up, shove us all in the room, and we sat there watching Ferris Bueller's Day off for 8 hours. Over, and over again.

Finally they started calling a few names, and then they announced, ok you all can go now.

After that, I spent the rest of my time in King's Bookstore. ( across the street from the courthouse) That place is awesome! Beware, you'll lose all track of time in there. They have every single book ever made spanned across 5 floors. Awesome place!

Awwwww, Shelley, those babies are so cute!!! I can't wait 'til my incubator arrives! I don't plan on hatching out any chicks, but ducklings are pretty cute, too.

Hey, I have another question. I've seen you guys use the term 'olive egger', and I wasn't really sure what that meant. A few days ago, I went out to collect eggs and found a large, olive-colored egg. Ah-hah! Now I get it. I have several green egg layers, and I get one light blue one every other day. This was the first olive colored one that I found, though. Then, yesterday I went out and there was a teeny tiny (about the size of one of my bantam eggs) dark olive one. I'm assuming that it's somebody's first egg. Any ideas on how I know which ones are laying the olive colored eggs? Is there a certain breed that does that, or is is just a sporadic thing?
