I tend to agree with you to bring in new blood lines. Does Estes have good quality birds? I was on their website yesterday looking at the checks. Pretty good prices but 25 is to many for us. I only am looking to ad 6 or 7 this year. I am trying my best to control myself and not go chicken crazy. My goals for this summer are to ad to the wellie flock and get my run covered so I can lock the little beasties up for most of the time. They got into my garage a couple days ago where I am restoring the Firebird and now there is chicken poop everywhere.

Let me know Sam when you are going to order pullets.

I am almost as happy as my chickens to finally see patches of ground beneath the snow.

Egg production has started to go up and yesterday I got 7 eggs from my bantam flock of 9 hens.

Good morning everyone.

Thank you to everyone for the great advice. The new girls are sleeping in the garage for the next few weeks, but I am letting them free range during the day. But they are not next to the other girls.They are probably 20 or 30 feet from my girls. Its the best I can do with my yard. They can see each other but don't seem to care at all.

more new babies in a few hours. I have the brooder regulated at 92 degrees. I think that should be good for week one. Right? there is poultry drench in the warm water and a layer of paper towels over the pine bedding. I think we're ready. Now if someone could just help me keep my house clean.

Good Morning... Looking forward to the gloomy day so I will have nothing better to do then clean.

I did decide with a little help (wink wink) to go forward with my lav australorp project.. but also throw my 2 silver lace w. in there and see what I get and maybe work on lav laced. And for good measure I'll probably still get a couple black orp hens for lav split eggs.

i didnt i called them and they got the wrong order sso im suppost to call them today, but i have to work, so thursday is when im expecting them now

Thanks Ellen, DH picked them up from the Family Farm and Home store yesterday. They got them from Townline. There were 2 that I was not sure about but now the mystery has been solved. The other was a Shaver black sex link. I also have two EE's, two buf orps and two black austrolorps.
