I don't miss having horses in the winter when it is all work and not much fun, but the summertime makes up for it. We used to turn on a radio in the barn for them tuned to talk radio-WJR or something. Seemed to keep them calmer. Works with dogs left home alone, too. Cats don't seem to give a rip. Trouble is now, you'd have horses listening to Rush Limbaugh. Nooooooo!!

oh my gosh! so way cold.

the big house reads -3* and everyone was acting normal.

PIGSICLES! yikes.

on a sad note, i lost two EE pullets in the brooder last night. i think they just trampled one another. they were at total opposite ends of the brooder. very weird. broke my heart a little.

Wow, it is reading -13 here!! I haven't seen it this cold here ever!! I have lived here almost 13 years. I feel like I am back up north and I moved here for a reason, to get away from that super cold and all that snow!!

Wow Vicki, I moved back here about the same time you did....1996, and I also moved back here from up north (U.P. for 22 years) when I say back here, this is where I was born and raised till I was 15.

Where north where you at?

I remember up north winters being cold, but not a damp cold.

"They" say this is the coldest its been since 1914!! I had to bring in Shirley cuz she doesn't have enough feathers to keep her warm. She's now in the heated garage with my 3 garage chickens, Pebbles, the buttercup, Funky, the showgirl I got from Vicki, and Cruella, the bantam polish. Hope no one else goes bald!

Was -27 here this morning at 8 am. They even closed Bay college which does not happen often. So all schools closed here. I don't ever remember a winter this bad here in the UP. Man I need warmer weather LOL.

I'm sorry too about your loss MJ, no matter how small a life, it is a life.

Just came in from chores, yep it's cold.

No pigcicles, they were snuggled up together in the straw. I went up in the hay loft and threw more straw down for them. They were busy making a deeper nest as I left.

Coop was @ 12 degrees and the girls were not complaining, they had warm water and a full feeder. 6 eggs as of now, but there should be 3 later on.

It's gotta be cold in the UP when they close schools and Bay college.

I think it's time for another cup of coffee.
