I think that the girls are to cold to pucker. Only got 3 eggs today. I've got a heat bulb in the coop and the inside temperature is 36. I sure will be glad when this cold spell ends. Sure makes it had to get to excited about doing anything outside. Well the good thing about it is "no snakes".

thanks again, everyone for your sympathies on my little pullets.

Sarah! sorry you are so ill! we have the crud going on in our home too.
be well!
that is horrible about that man that fell. God be with his family!

Steve! congrats on the egg! woo hooo!

Well after only one egg yesterday, I got 5 today! Yippee! I have to say the postive thing about this cold weather is the frozen poop is very easy to scoop up. I just wish the poor things could get outside a little. I guess it really makes me know what "cooped up" means. Soon it will be spring and we will all be posting pics of baby chicks playing in green grass!

I bought an heated poultry water fountain... I am sooo frustrated. Has anyone of you tried this one? It is by Farm Inovaters and the Tractor Supply store carries it? Every time I set it up it expoded water all over the place... Thankfully, I had the chickens locked up before I set it up or I think I would have chickensicles for sure. I had my 23 year old mechanic try it, same thing happened... What kind of heated water fountains to you all use? Would just the heated dog bowl be better? I worried my chickens might step in that... Help!

I've got 2 of them. The first time I had the same trouble. Practice put the bottom on with in empty to learn exactly how it locks. I know that it sounds stupid but trust me on this one. Next when you have it filled place one hand on the top and the other center on the bottom, invert quickly. It took me a couple of trys but I'm finally to the point that filling it is no big deal. Once you have the bottom attached you should ever have to remove it except to clean, however, if you don't have it center between you hands as you flip it it comes apart. Hope this helps. If not PM me for phone number. Sam

Thanks, Opa! I feel like an idiot, lol. I am so glad the chickens were locked up before I tried it out. It seems to be the flipping that goes wrong. If not that, then it all falls apart when I plug it in. I will try it again in the morning, before I open the coop.

Quigley Down Under is on...

Good morning all, I quess it's time to get up and moving. With -30 wind chills and -11 actual I'm not going to be going to moving very much. I will have to go out to check on the girls but other than that, nope, uh-uh, no way. I was supposed to take Granny for a mammogram at 8am but there is no way I'm taking her out in the bitter cold. Glad to see that all of the schools are closed. This kind of cold is just to dangerous for the kids to be out.

I am so glad they close school. My kids have Monday as a scheduled day off, so .... nice long weekend I am heading back out with my water heater. Praying I don't dump it again, lol. Going to wait till it is a little lighter out before I do. Will keep the hens in till I get it in place.

Mine's that way quite often. I think it's a age thing.

you might as well just spell it out, Opa. i'm old. BUT, the good thing is as soon as i get upset about it i forget what i was thinking about, so it's all fine in a few minutes.

going to go feed/water now. if i'm not back in 45 minutes, someone send an Arctic Exploration team out to find me in the tundra.

On second thought I don't think age could be the problem. Particularily since you are younger than my kids. So if you were to be considered old then that would make me ancient and I'm not ready to accept that yet.
