Morning all!

My son finally convinced me that it was time to get out of bed.

I so don't wanna go outside, but the chickies are callin'!

Be back in a little while.

I think Miss_Jayne and I should get together and make some chickie sweaters!

Got all the critters outside taken care of. My kids had a scheduled day off from school today, so we are off to the library. My DD wants a miniature horse so I told her first she has to read up on them and see if she really wants another critter to take care of. She is very good about taking care of her bunny and barn cats, but a mini horse is a way bigger responsiblity. I think it would be fun, but DH says its a big waste of $. Hope everyone can stay warm today!

Catray-I have the same waterer and had the same problem. The top part is so flimsy that it collapses is you don't flip it just right. I got so fed up with that 3 gallon water bomb that this year I'm using a heat dog water dish. And I purchased two of them

. Bummer.

i'm back! i didn't get lost or frozen to anything. which is a miracle.

Opa, you so aren't ancient! whatev!

i'm praying for spring all day long, not just night time! why chance it?

chickie sweaters? i'll give you two good reasons i should NOT be in charge of that:

1. i don't have a clue how to make a sweater.

2. the first chicken i'd try one on would probably peck me in the eye!

Well, Corky is just too stupid to know better. You got to take him for a walk....I did it last time, it's your turn!

My oldest son (28) just called me.

He heard on the radio, that with these extreme cold temperatures you should call and check in on the shut ins and elderly.

Thoughtful ain't he.....

As DH says...any day above ground is a good day! Could be worse, we could live in Alaska or Buffalo, NY, or we could have been on a plane near the Hudson River yesterday...after reading about that yesterday, I decided I'm not going to complain today.

I have 2 of those heated waterers, too, and they work awesome, I've never had issues with flipping them over, HOWEVER, I can't get the basin on unless I lay on the ground and look up at it from underneath! Try as I might, I just CANNOT get that darn thing to seat. My first one, I bought in the fall of '07, so I've had plenty of time to use it. Man, the concrete barn floor is mighty cold to be layin' on when I fill them...but, if you have any roos with long wattles (as I do), heated dog bowls aren't the best choice, because their wattles drag in the water & can freeze. SUPPOSEDLY, they cannot do so in the heated poultry waterers. I don't stand around and wait for the boys to drink and watch in this weather, so I can't say for sure if it helps or not, though.

My little cockerel with the weird eye issue seems to be doing fine. I've decided to just watch him closely and see how he develops. I definitely won't keep him as a breeder, though. Of course, he's the sweetest one. How is it that it's always the sweetest ones?

NO WAY! Really & truly? Holy CATS!

Oh, speaking of eggs...I was so happy last night! WHen I got home, DH reported we got FIVE eggs! WHat the....never expected that from my....ahem....cough cough.....15 girls in THIS weather!
