They stop laying and look real ugly for awhile.
Seriously, though....mine won't come out unless it's 50 or above when molting. They look quite unkempt during. I've never actually seen a bare spot on them, but they look real raggedy..best way I can describe.
I had one that went through a veyr hard molt last fall, and I seriously thought she had coryza or something because she was swollen all around her eyes. Come to realize, she was in a super hard molt, and her eyes were irritated due to the new feathers coming in - she had been scratching at them. GROSS pics here...she really is a pretty girl (normally) - I'm almost embarrassed for you to see her in these pics, but you can see the molt best in the last picture. Anywho, you know not to worry if you see THIS!
