GotChicken? :
In regards to Oopsy's situation, there may be an explanation, albeit a bizarre one that I still don't know if true or not.
One of my father's friends knows that I'm collecting chickens (what else would you call it
), and he is a frequent lurker at the Stockyard auctions that happen in Marlette every Monday. He told my dad the last time he went to the auctions, laying hens were selling for $23 dollars each!
: Apparently members of the Asian communities in metro Detroit come to the auctions and buy every adult chicken they can get their hands on. If this is true, it wouldn't surprise me a bit that the scumbag element would exploit this as another means to make a quick buck without actually having to work for it.
Concerns about theft and private property are also why it didn't bother me when Michelle (shellyb1969) had me pick-up chickens I bought from her at Ben's supermarket in Brown City instead of at her place; I completely understood why she did it. I also plan to be respectful when I go to Ellen's (ZephyrCreek) today to liberate some of her Chantecler pullets
.
You could be right GotChicken, as the auction and bird swaps are all just starting up. I didnt think about it. Im gonna call the local police this afternoon, but doubt it'll do any good. As we only have cops patrol here until 6pm then its up to the state and sherriff but Im at the farthest corner so we never see any come down my road.
I sure hope Ellen remembered you were coming? She stopped by my place today and we chatted for a couple hours. Was nice to finally meet her. I was out front doing chores, heard the dogs barking. I look and here is a truck in my drive and someone walking up to the house. First thing I said was "YOU'VE got guts walking up there with the dogs. And here its Ellen. LOL We had a nice chat and hope we do again soon. Always nice to talk chickens with someone else that is as crazy as I am , about them.
