Hey Michelle, my wheaten girl is laying again! I put a saddle on her and put them in a bigger pen, so everyone is much happier. I am saving everything she lays, so if you want some wheaten eggs, I'll have them for you.

Morning everyone!

Looks like it's supposed to be a beautiful day today and tomorrow. I heard Mr. Fox this morning at 6am. Got up and he must have been in the neighbors back yard. Then I could just see him come along the garden (it was still pretty dark, but I could make out his outline). So I flipped on the light and yelled at him. He ran off. I've become very attuned (spelling?) to his calls in the night. I still need to walk the dog around the perimeter of the back yard -- he's an excellent marker! I've let my four week old chicks -- meaties and layers -- out to run around in their run. They seem to enjoy themselves! Have a great day!

Lets see... what kind of chickens could we get with that money..... or how about another coop for more chickens? If only Kodi could bring in money like that every day!

I know your pain. I lost 4 gosling eggs this week. They never absorbed their yolks. I am fairly sure that humidity was the main problem in my hatch. I do great for chickens, but it does not want to maintain over 60%. It's a constant battle. I recently read where someone used cloth baby diapers soaked in water to add humidity. I think I will try that next time.

Ellen, try sponges. You can stand them on edge and provide from surface area than a wet soggy diaper. Thirty six years ago I decided that I would never deal with another wet diaper and I managed to keep that promise to myself for twenty six years until my granddaughter came into the room carry a fresh diaper and saying "Opa, change me". So afterwards I had to renew my vow and refuse to touch them even for chickens.

Good morning all!

I am not getting anything done today. I just keep wandering between the house and the turkeys to "check on them".

They stayed on the two highest roosts in the coop all yesterday afternoon, night and for much of this morning just giving me the stinkeye every time I came in. The wouldn't come down for anything. And I mean anything. I tried grapes, greens, clementine slices, melon, egg, just plain old bird seed, a feeder full of feed. Nothing. I thought we were looking at a turkey hunger strike on our hands. Possibly because my daughter's new silkie pullet found a hole in the pen and snuck in with them and tried cuddling under one of the hens -- the hen was NOT impressed. I noticed the silkie missing and went looking and, since no one was hurt, just had to laugh a little when I found her. She was all cuddled up under the hen's wing and the hen kept looking at her like WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THIS THING??!? AND WHY WON'T IT LEAVE ME ALONE????

I feel a little bad for the silkie, really, she is such a little love bug and no one wants to cuddle with her. I'm half tempted to let her hang out with the australorp chicks in the bathroom at this point, they'd cuddle with her.

At any rate, the turkeys have finally come out of the coop into their temporary pen and seem to be eating and drinking now. The Tom gobbled at me when I came out the door so he must be feeling a little more secure.

Morning everyone. And WELCOME to all the new members.

Opa hope you are feeling better?

Sorry about the problems with hatching. I had 39 Isa eggs in the bator to hatch early march and got 6. Dont know what happened or went wrong? I thought maybe too small of air cells to hatch out. Or to thick of shells?? Second hatch was 95% ..same bator, same temps, humidty. So gosh only knows what happens in hatching???

Im very excited about my guinea hatch yesterday. Not only is there again Blue Eyed Whites but also Royal Purple. Woo Woo. Few of those are going to a fellow BYC'er and neighbor around the corner from me.

If anyone needs a duckling fix, I have a few I can spare on the 30 I bought that are 3 wks old. Not feathered yet and still full of yellow down.

Dont forget Imlay City Swap is April 24th. We should plan on meeting up for lunch.

Getting lots done here- house cleaning, school work, apple crisp done and ham in the crockpot for dinner.

Sorry about the failed hatches. The whole process still amazes me!

Off to check on the chicks.
Enjoy your afternoon!
Sarah

I'm sorry to hear about your goose eggs. What do you try to keep your humidity at for waterfowl? I kept the humidity at 65% I'd let it go down to 55% then add water to bring it back up. A similar approach has been very successful with chickens (50-55% drop to 45%) should I have kept my humidity more constant? Or higher? There are so many different opinions when it comes to hatching it is all so confusing...
