Well, in the DVD my DH got, the guy who does it (he's from MI, by the way, which I thought was pretty neat) is a cabinet builder by trade, and does signs on the side, but his workshop was FULL of really interesting and neat signs. Anywho, he just finds pics and text on the Internet, or finds a font he likes in Word, and then just blows it up to whatever size he needs for the sign; when you print it, it will print on several sheets of paper if it's big, and you can just tape the sheets together. Then, get regular old carbon paper - they sell it at any office supply store. Put the carbon paper on top of the wood, under the sheets of fonts/pic, and just use a blunt pencil to trace around it. Of course, he made it look amazingly easy!

One tip he gave was to choose fonts that do not have very pointy edges on them, because those are too hard to cut out.

Steve - thanks for the comment on the Alaskan cruise! I'd always heard bits & pieces, but to know of someone who actually went & loved it, just makes me want to work harder to save to go. I know they're expensive, but it would be a once in a lifetime thing for DH and I; we're pretty much homebodies!

Steve, I'm sure you could find a font that would work for that. If I can get going and actually make something that looks....well....not like something that a first grader made, I'll post a pic, and I'd be happy to kick out some signs for folks on here for the cost of the wood, so I can get some practice in!

Colorblindness:

Actually it is called color challenged because we can see colors.

It is supposedly passed from mother to son. My grandfather on my moms side was color challenged/blind , my mom passed that trait on to me....had my daughter lived she would have possesed that gene to pass it on to a son. Both my sons are not colorblind and the likelyhood of them passing it on is small.

I don't know this as fact, just what I had been told by my eye doctor.

.....and on my last visit, the eye doctor was amazed that a old guy like me (50) had perfect 20/20 vision.

yep. just missing cones to see certain colors. (red-green colorblindness is the most common.)

not only does Rick's mom carry the gene, she passed it to the boys and their daughter! she has color differentiation issues!

Quote:
most color blind people see colors. they just don't see the red and green in things. that's why traffic lights have a blue light behind the green. that way color blind people can see it.

Red/green is what I have the problem with, but it is shades of them. I can see John Deere green or Barn red just fine, but it is hard to explain.....as the colors get close together in shades of red/green I can't differentiate.

My wife has a ball with this when we are out with someone....her way of teasing me and making me blush...yes I blush easily, red, and I can see it when I look in a mirror after she makes me blush....Evil woman.

When I drive in a large town, my wife needs to be observant for the lights at nightime for me. A green traffic light looks exactly like a street light. In Wisconsin, the stop lights are near the sidewalks like a street light.....I have a verrrrry hard time seeing the difference.

When I went to college, my mom bought me about a dozen all white socks so I wouldn't miss match colored socks.

You guys need a Michigan forum to do all your blabbing in!

I took some pics of the waterfowl bathing, preening and enjoying a nice day.
The chickens are still opting to stay inside.
Still too much snow I think.

THINK SPRING MICHIGANDERS!

it tastes real good too...
we didn't wait for it to cool...that's why the bread looks a little smooshy.

DD (with the broken toe) and me just had a piece each. way good.

there are two loaves so at least my DH has a chance at getting a piece.

Hi, Vicky! Good to see you on here!

Your new geese are gorgeous! That 2nd or 3rd pic (I forget which one it is) where the white has her head all the way back over her back and her eyes closed is SO cute! Looks like she's in a world of contentment!
