Well the luck of the draw. I let a my cochin hen sit on a nest with 7 eggs. She hatched one out 2 weeks ago then a week into having the first she had 3 more and then my wife moved her and the remaining eggs to the new nursery part of the coop and she hatched out 2 more. Then she gave up on the last one so I opened it and nothing just a yoke so is that 90 percent or 100 percent for hatching. 90 percent for me guessing which eggs to put under her.

So there are 5 cochins and on straight leg.

On a sad note my cochin rooster had been pulling all the feathers out of my hens and I caught him dragging girls out of the coop so he meet a timely passing. I would not have gave him away to anyone he was not changing.

Hope everyone is good.

OPA- the banties are great and now with my teenagers wow do those 6 group up.

Hello! Went to garage sales today. Did well in finding some fall clothing for my oldest DD. The youngest doesn't really need much (all her sis's old clothing). Made some zucchini bread last night that used honey and sugar. It was yummy! My friend bought me a beautiful jar of local honey (it's a big jar -- 64oz). So it was nice to use some of it. And Lord knows that I have zucchini to use up, too. Well, off to pick beans. everyone have a great day!

Id love to get some of this rain but its all about 20miles south of me. I know a lot of parents are on here that have 4-hers and I just wanted to know what the best way to get a bird to pose is. Mine have gotten really bad and ive been working with em but my show is in 2 weeks so....

Boy today sure was a hot miserable day. I couple of days ago the air conditioner coil was leaking water on to the basement floor. I shut the thing off for a couple of hours and then turned it back on and it seemed that it solved the problem. Wrong! This morning Hope vacuumed at least 5 gallons of water from the carpet. I shut off the air and called a heating contractor friend. He couldn't come over until this evening, so we went all day without air. This place soon felt like a sauna.

He got here this evening, checked the freon levels and said my problem was a dirty filter and dirty compressor. We replaced the filter, clean the compressor and turned the air back on. About a hour after he left Hope discovered water running copiously out of the side of the plenum. I suddenly dawned on me that maybe the condenstat discharge line was plugged. I blew air through it and it now appears the problem is fixed, no more water is running out of the furnace. Tomorrow I will disconnect the line and clean it better and hopefully we will be cool tomorrow.

Fifteen eggs from 21 hens today, so it doesn't seem like the heat is bothering the birds too much. I think as long as they have shade and water the heat doesn't hurt them as bad as it does us.

Good Morning! Humid again. Oh, how I hate the humidity! Stay cool...

That's funny. Only way to stay cool is sit inside and do nothing. So take the day off and enjoy. Heading to Lansing ....not to paint, but for my grand daughters birthday party. She's gonna be a big 4 now. Tomorrow, heading back to Lansing to move son and his family into their newly scrubbed and painted home!

Hi Everyone! I'm new to the forum and new to Back yard chickens. I live in Holly Michigan which is in the Northwest part of Oakland county. And I must say I am already a Chicken addict. lol I find chickens free ranging in the yard very therapeutic. My friends and I practice chicken therapy. lol I have 1 buff orphington, 1 black australorp, i silver laced polish and 1 easter egger. My 2 boys plan on showing our hens next year in 4-H. We missed entering the fair this year but we did get to go and see everyone elses chickens.

Tomorrow morning we go and take animals home and clean everything up. An afternoon nap is scheduled already!

Today Emily had Showmanship Sweepstakes (junior 9-11) to compete in. She was against 7 other kids, all won 1st place in showmanship for 8 species: pig, goat, lamb, horse, beef, dairy, rabbit, and poultry. They had to show all of the species and the one with the highest points won...and the winner was EMILY!

I am so proud of my kids, they did great at the classes they showed in and we good sportsmen about winning and losing.

The girls did good with the auctions. They have money to go in the bank for college.

Off to bed
