My not so little chicks are gonna spend their first night out in the coop tonight. Couldn't keep them in the brooder in the garage anymore because they are starting to jump up at the sides and I caught one on the edge of the brooder, ready to jump out and take off!

I'm also thinking my light brahma is really a dark brahma Because she has nearly all black feathers all over. I'm also thinking she might be a he, but we can wait and see if any crowing goes on.
Some have managed to figure out how to cluck so in between 'peeps' and 'chirps' I'll occasionally hear a 'cluck-cluck'.

Thank You, I asked my poultry leader and he said its okay. I mean my Jap is 2 years old and doesnt like to pose...but the cochin doesnt either.​

I've been awake and sitting here reading since 4am. That was a little earlier than I had wanted to start my day, but since my elbows are bumping pine I'm not going to complain.

I've got a vorwerk hen sitting on a half dozen eggs and I'm kicking myself for not recording the first day I placed eggs under her. I keep checking hoping to discover chicks, but it would have been so much easier if I could remember which day I should have started counting from.

A word of advice to other early risers. Don't briefly rest your eyes as you type. You'll wind up resting your finger on the keyboard and have lots of extra letters to erase.

:/Yesterday I gave my 3 white crested ducks to Oopsey, so it's a little more quiet this morning than usual. I'm down to 2 buff ducks and 14 chickens. Ann Arbor Art Fairs today, hopefully the rain will not appear and I won't find anything I can't live without.

Today has been fun so far.
Chicks are doing well in the coop. They have taken to removing the paper plate feeder lid so we are gonna have to hang that soon.

Going to the dentist is fun too.

Can't feel the front of my face and had three fillings done. The original plan was to do two on the molars, but after looking at the x-rays he decided to do just one molar, but then because there was time left he filled a couple cavities on my front teeth.
It all went well and a filled cavity is better than an open one, so I'm not complaining.

Had some more excitement last night...I had just finished processing 12 half pints of blueberry jam (around 8ish), when I heard my rooster buking his little head off. I ran outside, to find a big coyote right in the middle of my driveway! I yelled at him and threw rocks until he left. He would stop every few feet and look back at me, as if to say "Whatever". At one point he spit out a wad of black feathers from my FBCM. I found all the hens, who were hiding all around the yard. Everyone is okay, including the roo. Rousseau (my FBCM) was limping a tiny bit, but there were no wounds or blood on her anywhere. She was okay this morning. My neighbor came over at around 9:30pm and told me she saw the coyote in my pasture with my mules. They chased him off, fortunately. I am sure he'll be around for a while.

Just got back from the county fair ... good news!

My eggs took second place

There were probably about 6 dozen eggs, quite a bit for our small county, so I'm proud of my girls!

My jalapenos took first, my picture of the AuSable River won first in the Scenic Category for photography and my braided rag rug took second. My cookies and my bee balm didn't place, oh, well.

DD showed my old endurance horse. Took 4th in showmanship and 1st in leadline.

All in all a great week!
