THANK YOU HUSTON... I TRY.. BUT THAT PROBABLY WAS TAKEN RIGHT AFTER I GAVE THEM FRESH WATER.. I USE THAT FOR THE RUNOFF OF THE WATERER... I HAD A HECK OF A TIME KEEPING THEM OFF THE TOP OF IT... MY SIL... MADE ME THIS WOODEN CAP THING THAT I PUT ON TOP.. IT WORKS MOST OF THE TIME... BUT I STILL HAVE TO CHANGE THE WATER EVERYDAY IF NOT TWICE A DAY... I HAVE A WATERER AND FOOD IN BOTH THE COOP AND THE RUN...SOMETIMES I AM GONE FOR ONE OR TWO DAYS... BUT THAT IS THE MOST I HAVE BEEN GONE. WE HAVE A COTTAGE UP NEAR GLADWIN, MI. THAT WE ARE RENOVATING...SO IT IS TAKING MUCH OF MY TIME.

SO YOU THINK MAYBE AT 24 WEEKS THEY SHOULD START LAYING? MY HUBBY THREATENING TO DO AWAY WITH THEM... I KNOW BETTER.. HE WOULD KNOW THE FIRST THING ABOUT DOING THE DEED ... LET ALONE DOING IT... THAT WILL BE MY JOB TOO...

WHERE IN THE GLADWIN AREA? WE JUST BOUGHT A COTTAGE ON SMALLWOOD LAKE... NEAR THE WOODENSHOE!!

We're in western Arenac County. Do you get off at M-61 exit 190? If you follow the sign that says "Sterling" we're about 7.5 miles north of there on the Rifle River.

Oh yeah! We named the Brewster the Rooster and his gal pal Judy! Judy's a great layer and lays the most beautiful blue eggs...she went broody on us this spring which was wonderful...hid under the coop and we had to excavate her and her 5 eggs....then went to a family wedding and the neighbor boy who was watching her took the eggs and put them in the fridge.

they were within days of hatching! She's not gone broody since but still manages to fly out of the run and go to the other two coops to lay her eggs! We have some juveniles in there now....maybe next spring - btw, any idea what her age is?

20 weeks is a guideline, most chickens will not start laying until at or after that point. Some won't begin laying until considerably later, 30 or 40 weeks even.

That said, I'm assuming you probably already know it, but a few of those birds will never lay. You've got a few roos there.

Nice to hear! Love the names!!! Too bad about the eggs, maybe she'll go broody for you again. She was around a year old when you got her last year so she should be about two years old now, unless she was in the brood from the year before in which case she'd be closer to three years old... I don't remember now it's been so long. Her line was made of good eggers that laid late into life so I'm sure she's got quite a bit left to give.

Anyone interested in some Showgirls? Cheap, cheap!

Bay City pick-up.
We hatched out too many birds & need to rehome some. I will let cockerals go for free. Perhaps, I'd barter some hay for a pair. I would rather they go to a BYCer.

hi Olive! I know that more than one person has said that I have 3 Roos... but I have to tell you that I am not so sure. They were all hatched on the same day... seen it myself... and the one Roo has been crowing and ruling the roost for over a month now. The other two have not done anything... their combs have not grown larger either. I am not sure that they are Roosters... I might be wrong.. but I have been feeding them and watching them.. and so far just the one rooster...Actually when they were baby chicks.. I called that rooster "Lady"... boy was I wrong....
