I really had a bad day yesterday, couldn't get in, and this morning the same thing, I tried to write to support people, don't know if they got it or not, and didn't know if they knew about it or not. All is well, now to catch un on my reading!

Let me add my

. We're a pretty good group of chicken lovers - there's no such thing as a dumb question (we've all asked them, some of us repeatedly

) or anyone being too outrageous when describing their love of poultry

It's all good!

Huston's Happy Hens :

Hey - took poop samples from all over the chicken yard today to the vet to see if they have worms - recall that we have one hen (separated) who has gargancun poops that are mushy and a lt green in color.....NO WORMS but coccodi....now we don't know if this is from the one hen we have separated or not because the vet MIXED THEM ALL TOGTHER! had specifically separated that out - will be taking another tomorrow to her - ? - has anyone ever had an issue w/coccodia and/or how did you handle - this hen is acting totally fine and has had the mushy poop for 2 wks.....thanks! btw, i've been feeding her yogurt.

tech here- the reason he mixed them most probably is because if one has it, you have to treat them all. It is easily transmitted. Especially with a chicken. They step in, peck at each others poop all day long.
Also- any dogs and cats that you have that go out into the yard should be treated also.

Medicate and dump/fill any standing water you may have around the yard, scrape/clean up etc. any roosting areas that may collect poop. Medicate chickens and you should be good to go!

Good luck!

Don't know if you saw it but there's a write up about it at the top of the main page. I knew they knew about it from the start because I use firefox and it said they did so I just waited. Glad it's fixed now!

Haven't done much today but cuddle and play with bunnies outside and look for a job. Although not sure how I'll hold a job as long as I feel this way but gotta do something. Put my car away for the winter too, that's kinda sad. Now we're down to 1 car again. I'm searching for a very cheap car (preferably a truck) even if it needs work because Aric can do anything with a car! If anyone has anything I'd love to hear about it!

Well tonight is the finale of Big Brother and America's Got Talent. Really the only reality shows I watch besides American Idol lol. Uh oh here come 2 wet dogs. Flea season is upon us. This always happens when we're short on cash to treat them properly lol

Wendy'sChicksRock!

I'm over by Irish & Coldwater Rds. How about you? Currently, I'm a stay at home mom but kind of looking to return to the workforce again. Not many options out there though so meanwhile I'm enjoying being at home with my kids (6 & 4) and of course my new love of chickens. They are so entertaining.

I'm at Irish and Bristol! I'm stay at home, also, but the retired kind. I've got grand kids your kids' ages...lol. Ever this way, you should stop by and visit.
Beautiful day...spent most of it outside doing chores. Got the coops and rabbit hutch cleaned and worked in the flower garden. Got a walk in, too! Now it's time to relax.

ok, so what should we medicate with? Our vet suggested 4 T apple cider vinegar to 1 gal of water.
btw, we've had this hen isolated since saturday and not had an egg laid in that time...she's 2.5 years

here's a pic -

i would say that the excretion is the size of a pancake (nothing like I've EVER seen before!) if not larger and an inch to 2 in depth.....took add'l samples to vet today - haven't heard back from her...a couple had what appeared to be a bit of blood in it.....

Hey guys! Does anyone in the Belding/Ionia area have any layers that they'd be willing to part with or KNOW of anyone around that area with layers for sale? My sister lives out there and just lost three of her pullets. I'm trying to start an egg biz next year so I'm not really sure if I can give her as many as she's looking for. She says she wants around five and currently has RIRs.

SN: I have nine eggs in my 'bator right now and they're so active! I can't wait to post pics of the fuzzbutts when they arrive!!

Here is a great page for you to read:

http://attra.ncat.org/attra-pub/coccidiosis.html

and tell your vet to prescribe you some meds to give them.

I have an older hen too- she is around the same age, and hasnt laid one egg all summer. She was my faithful egg-a-day hen for two years, now nothing. But, she is our favorite and has pet-status around here. She rules the roost. Carmen- our original chicken.

Good morning. Workout done. My son even workout this morning with me.

We treated our cocci with sulmet cause that is what I could get. A lot of people suggest Corid? If you were close you could have some sulmet. They only sold it in gallon size, and you only need a little for chickens.

I'm 1/2 hour from Ionia and have a few POL (23 week) Black Australorps for sale. We ended up with a lot of pullets this year and just don't need as many as I have. They're $8 each, if she's interested.

It's a cold and wet one out there this morning, just as they predicted. It still doesn't make going out in it to do chores any more pleasant though.

Even our diehard, stay-out-in-any-weather dog didn't stay out long this morning. I think he's getting soft and spoiled in his old age. He's starting to appreciate his creature comforts more and more every day.
