My (only) two female turkeys that I have look like they've gotten beatdowns! Their faces around the eye areas are swollen, started on the right and now one female has it on both sides, almost can't see out of one eye. The three toms are fine, eating, drinking and poop looks normal. The females act fine also but their faces are a bit scary looking, I think it's so sort of infection.

Any vets in my area??

Sorry I didn't get my name to you till this morning..... I've been whooped with all the hunting and work we've been doing at home.

Silly -- No apologies needed. I was suffering from self-inflicted insomnia last night (make sure, if you decide take a nap on a lazy Sunday, you set an alarm! LOL!) and figured out that your name is on your website after I PM'd.

Cricket -- Sorry I don't know of any avian vets. Are they showing any other symptoms?

Sillychicken, how is your hand today? I hope it is better but if not please have it looked at by a doctor. I know someone who had the same thing happen and his hand got pretty badly infected.
Nice looking rabbit hutch by the way.

If its swollen and itchy its an infection. Benedryl will only treat the itching you need to get on some antibiotics to clear it up. If you develop any flu like symptoms or start seeing redness or streaking up your arm get to ER and get some antibiotics ASAP. Keep a close eye on it this is nothing to mess around with.

Thanks for the advise and concern.... it was better this morning, swelling is gone and no longer itchy or sore (other than where the cut is.. on top of my knuckle). I cleaned out the cut really good again last night and loaded on the antibiotic ointments.

Does anyone have any Bantam Dutch or know where we can get some birds, chicks, or eggs? My son wants to go to them for his 4H project so we prefer some we can pick up rather than spending a fortune having them shipped in. He is willing to trade serama hens for a pair of Dutch. Please PM me!! Thanks in advance!!!!

I don't get it. My chickens have a HUGE garage/barn to go into now. I am now using the old red coop for the ducks. We moved it around to face the duck run, took out the laying box and the ducks can go in there anytime and they stay there at night. It was just too hard to move the ducks into the chicken run, then a half hour later go into the chicken run and lock everyone up.

But the chickens.....WHY? They have all kinds of room to themselves and they would rather stand in the pouring rain!! Especially the isa browns and silkies. The silkies are furry!! I'd think all that fur or whatever would be heavy when it gets wet haha. WHY??

The ducks are a different story. They LOVED the pouring rain, weren't even scared of the thunder and lightening. But once it stopped, poor things walked around looking miserable! I wanted to pick the calls up and take them inside. They went into the pond when it was raining, but once the storm stopped it was all muddy and gross so no one went in to clean up.

Oliver, Louie and (we hope) Daisy looking dazed and confused

Sandi doesn't seem to mind as much as the rest

L-R Willie, (we hope!) Daisy, Louie and Oliver. I wish it hadn't been so misty out there (and my camera is junk but new one is on the way!!) because this would have been a great pic!!

I dunno, the more I look, the more Daisy looks like a male. Poor thing, looking so miserable

Sunny isn't looking so sunny. Actually, she didn't seem to care. All she cared about was getting food that wasn't floating LOL

Daisy (I hope) just seems glad the rain is over!

Morning all! We really needed the rain. It has been so dry. I could do without the cold snap that's about to set in though.

Keyt - It looks like you're going to have to do some more refiguring of the duck flock before spring. Daisy is ... Donald.

SillyChicken - I'm glad your hand is better. Thanks for the referral on the dogs, too. I received a lot of information back via email from Castle Guard and spoke with Shauna yesterday evening by phone about their screening process. We're "approved" for one of their Corsos and have the companion contract. Once we're ready to add another dog to the family we'll be putting a deposit down. That won't be until next year at the earliest but ...
