They are still spunky, friendly and bright eyed. I do listen to them stirring in the AM. (and when they settle at night, I love to listen to them "talk" about the day just passed or what they plan on for this new day!). Faces are just as adorable as ever, no signs of pyffyness at all.

The coop is dry in the AM, no sign of any funny breathing.
I spread scratch outside today and they were not interested, but we brought them a goodie plate and they went into greedy
gut mode.

I will give them their treats outside tomorrow and see if they go for it. I will have to watch the feeder close. We seem to be over run with squirrels this year

I whistled for my dog to hurry up at 4:30 this morning, and someone crowed in response to me- from my coop.
I wish I could figure out which hen is crowing.

It really is not right. I do not have a rooster.

The sliding door was frozen shut this morning. I guess this means winter has officially arrived.

The girls came out today, tempted them with warm mashed potaoes and oatmeal.
Then they kept following me around the yard!!! Maybe they hope I have boots and mittens for them? :lol

104 days till Spring !!!

Can't hardly believe that I haven't had to shovel snow yet. The shovels sit at each door. The snowblower is gassed and waiting and it wouldn't break my heart if it doesn't have to move all winter. Two weeks of dealing with winter watering and I already am wishing for spring. Each time I carry water out to the birds I find myself asking "what was I thinking"? Meijers carrys eggs that are much cheaper than mine and I never had to carry water to get them.

*sigh* at least yours is a rooster? My chickens stopped laying eggs months and months ago- one is old and I didnt get an egg from her all Summer. Now someone crows. Every day.

Opa,
I feel the same way when i carry out the water- AND I have to buy my eggs. No duck eggs, no chicken eggs.

Yesterday, I looked out back and one of my ducks were sitting in the middle of their pond- which is frozen. And I worried that she was frozen in it. And then I had no idea how I would save her because HOW would I walk out into it and get her free?????? Certainly I couldnt walk on the ice- not that frozen. And when I got to her, then what? How to get her out? All these thoughts going through my head as I put on my coat and shoes..and as soon as I walked out into the FREEZING wind, she stood up and walked to the edge. Dumb duck- she was pretending she was swimming.

On a happier note, we have a little snow- but nothing to shovel. Just to sweep. So, I cannot complain. I hear its coming, but I am hoping it goes away.

It's nice not having to shovel now, but we'll pay come next summer if the precipitation doesn't catch up.

I'm making ice cream cone cake pops for the youngest DD's class treat for her birthday (which isn't until Friday) Lets just say I'm glad I started early. The professional bakers make it look so easy...

When will I ever learn not to put elaborate ideas into my kids' heads? She didn't even know cake pops existed, let alone ones made to look like ice cream cones. I could have gotten out of this with a simple batch of cupcakes...

I agree, I would rather put up with snow now than a soggy spring and summer!

I am Soooo glad my kids are grown! We went to a program for my 5 year old grandson at his school and all I had to do was enjoy! (or rather pretend to. 3 months is not enough time to learn an instrument and play in front of old people!)
