Can't help with the ID, but I love the speckled hens in the snow.

Anybody here happen to be into coin collecting? I inherited a small collection -- about 1000 pennies dating from the late 1800s to the late 1900s; a hundred or so nickels and a handful of "antique" bills and notes the likes of which I suspect are probably reproduction plus some old foreign bills (bills are loose, the coins are all in protective covers/cases and have notes alongside them as to condition, abnormalities, mint stamps, etc.) -- and I am tired of them collecting dust and taking up space in my house. They've been sitting in a cabinet for almost a decade now, and it's probably a shame they're not out there for real collectors to have access to, really. I doubt any of them are the really rare ones, but I'm sure at this point anything from 1880 isn't exactly plentiful.

Anyway, I was really just wondering if anyone has any experience with the lansing area coin shops -- Liberty in Frandor, specifically -- I was thinking about taking them in there and letting them make an offer on them, but have read conflicting reviews of their business practices. Not looking to get rich or anything but don't necessarily want to be taken for a ride either. Would just like to get them back into the hands of collectors and sell them for a "fair" price, but not knowing anything about them it would be nice if there were a shop I knew I could at least somewhat trust.

4 EGGS TODAY!!!!!!! WOHOOO!!!

Olive, I dated a numismatist (specialist in rare coins and bills) who had his own business with his dad. I learned a LOT from him. I was even lucky enough to receive some rare stuff as gifts. Anyway, back in that day, Liberty was a great place. So much so that Liberty and Steve's place were the only ones and they both did very well. Now there are SOOO many of these "we buy gold" places that places like Liberty do a lot of cut throat business. A year ago I took in some jewelry that my grandma didn't want anymore and some stuff I had from my high school days. I also had a fairly decent collection of pennies and nickles that my grandma started for me 5 years before I was born!NONE of which was fake or not worth anything because both my mom (the one who bought my stuff) and my grandma never bought fake or reproductions. Well, I had a good sized silk bag full of this stuff, everything from necklaces, earrings, rings (again, not costume jewelry) and the guy told me none of it was real. Let me tell ya, he didn't know I had learned a little through Steve Davis and Craig Whitford and I KNOW you can't just peak in a magnifying glass for just a second. I also had a framed bill from Disney that were only given to their employees that i had taken elsewhere and the guy there told me to wait a year it should double in price and the guy at liberty told me it was a fake.

I haven't spoken to Steve in a while but it appears he bought Craig's business in 2008. The info is here:

Good luck!

Let me add, last I knew Steve was a very friendly guy who would tell you the honest truth about your collection and I highly recommend him. Unless he got into this "we buy gold" frenzy like a lot of coin auctions have. I doubt it though. He was one that would go to people's houses or you bring it to him and he would talk it over with you and give you advice. You can tell him I sent ya but I haven't talked to him in over 10 years. Either he's forgotten me or ...he's an ex, we'll leave it at that

Let me be the first to say GOOD MORNING MICHIGAN!! Everyone busy this morning? Family got together for my future step grand daughter last night. She was with her dad on xmas eve, so didn't get a chance to see her. So.. we had a special xmas just for her. She tossed the clothes aside and went straight for the toys,

The big white one with the black/white feathers looks like a Light Brahma

Yeah that's what I thought too...even has the feathers on her legs like one. there's two of those, the little leghorn, one that I am fairly certain is a black austorlorp and the one in the first picture with the brown head I think is just a mutt.
